I actually liked how my Mustang didn't feel like I was sitting in a hole like other coupes.

I think long term it makes more sense to consolidate, but that's obviously from an outsider perspective. I feel like on its own, they have a tough time investing in Mustang too much, but if it can share costs over a broader range of products, that'll help investments.

I think having such an old platform is really harming the mustang's design as well. The basic shape is fine, but the wheelbase and overhangs, and height could be a lot better. I notice it because I'm into car design, a lot of people won't, but things like how the front overhang is longer than the dash to axle ratio, it just feels wrong for a rwd muscle car design. Ideally, moving to a new platform would enable modern proportions, push the wheels to the corners more, accentuate the longer hood, lower the roof and belt lines a bit, etc. Things that would make the mustang a lot better looking. -
Well, didn't Fields have plans to also put a Ford and Lincoln sedan on CD6 too (along with Edge, and presumably Nautilus) before he was canned? Now, whether that sedan capability was pulled out of the platform when Fields left, I don't know. But it also does make sense to start a CUV on that, even if it's not related to the regular Mustang.....

I believe there's value to what you're both proposing. No matter how you slice it, a plant is gonna need significant modifications to accommodate what we're proposing. So I think Ford should invest that money into flat rock, but I like what Akirby is proposing about consolidating more rwd products onto one platform. -

Wouldn't the main concern with using cd6 be the weight? The explorer weighs 4,300 lbs on the low end. Cut it down to mustang size and it would probably weigh about the same as s650, maybe even less. I suppose it depends on if cd6 was conceived as a cuv platform first, or if it was conceived as a rwd sporty platform that just happened to have a cuv riding on it. If it's the former, we're in trouble, if it's the later, we should be fine. -
Who knows, I can't find it in the 2025 order guide either, but I know they had it. I thought it was part of lux......maybe it's part of the leather seating package, which the one in the photos doesn't seem to have (you can see the seat in one and it looks like the marine grade vinyl to me).

I agree with Sherm and RMC that it's sounding more and more likely that Ford will consolidate everything mustang related onto one platform. I believe explorerdude has confirmed this as well, that s750 coming around the end of the decade will have a new platform, either cd6, or something else. If they can do it without compromising on the performance attributes of the coupe, it just makes a lot of sense to share the platform with a sedan, cuv, and explorer to really get volume on your side. Ironically, it could make the next gen mustang more compelling, more modern, maybe more evocative proportions, etc, but also make it more affordable because it's no longer riding on an orphan platform, a win-win. -

Well given its roots sharing things with the DEW98/LS Platform, I don't think it wouldn't be able to handle a sedan, but the bigger issue is that the passenger cell would half to be completely redesigned to accommodate an extra two doors and the related expense in crash testing it. That is why the updated CD6 plan popped into my head-you'd spilt costs with the Explorer/Navigator, share powertrains and be on a more modern platform, but the real issue is would the coupe version be so compromised because it started life as a CUV? That also raises this question-it would be easier to do a Mustang CUV shared with the Explorer and not a sedan and just let the S650 be updated as the coupe since its been long paid for since its roots go back 20+ years now, thankfully its not as janky as the Fox platform LOL
