What is Ford really about? The head honcho is consistent in his defense that Ford cannot and should not be everything to everbody. He said the following back in 2024:
We're getting out of the boring-car business and into the iconic-vehicle business. We'd always competed at the heart of the passenger-car market, which didn't work out too well for Mondeo, Focus, and Fiesta.
We make products for people who work, and work with their hands, and we make passion products like Bronco and Mustang. And that's what we do at Ford, and when we've gotten away from that formula, it hasn't worked out.
Ford CEO Jim Farley Says Automaker Won't Make Cars For Everyone
However, Ford isn't looking to appeal to every kind of shopper out there, it seems. “We don’t want to make cars for everyone. We want to make beautiful off-road machines and work vehicles," Farley said during a recent appearance on Argentina's La Nacion.
I feel like these comments go against what Ford is about.
I'm betting within a year, we'll be hearing of the Maverick Sport. Basically a replacement for the Escape. But looks like the Maverick. 2 row with the same length as the Maverick has at 200 inches. Which will be slightly longer than the Edge's 183 inches.
I heard rumors it was gonna underpin a proper RWD Continental and possibly a Ford sedan. If they can get enough weight out of it, I'd like to see it underpin the next mustang coupe and sedan. I feel like that would make more sense than doing an all new platform or trying to keep the same old platform going.
