GM might see the writing on the wall: supply chains that run through China are politically untenable at this point. I work in the economic development field with a lot federal funding, and it's actually surprising how much protectionist trade and procurement policy has transcended through the Trump 1 > Biden > Trump 2 era without being modified or revoked. No matter who is elected in 2028, I can't see these protections being revoked due to the potential political backlash from a lot of groups with a vested interest in domestic production.
And you'd lose a huge part of manufacturing in the USA which wouldn't bode well for the country, but hey you want to buy some EV from China, so its all good...fuck everyone else.
