Interesting how we all want it to be different from each other. Akirby has kinda hinted he wants it to be Ford's take on a Ridgeline, a midsized unibody truck, which would be a unique offering. Borg is claiming it's a bronco truck which would strengthen the bronco line. I'm tired of all Fords trucks playing it pretty safe, so I'm hoping it's something bold and differentiated like a new ute, especially with Farley hinting he would like to bring utes back. I think all of those trucks are compelling in their own way. Time will tell which one Ford ends up going with, if any. -

The only reason for Zephyr over some proposed "maybe" 4 door Mustang-esque variant is that Zephyr is already there and ready to go....the other is not. Even if it got green lighted tomorrow - you would not see it for 18-24 months....and that is being optimistic. -
Yeah, I don't see them shrinking F-150.....I think they're confusing the new midzie one with F-150 redesign. what if none of the rumors are true - Bronco truck doesn't exist, Ranger does die, and they relace it with a more US-centric F-100 that slots a bit better between Maverick and F-150? I don't feel like it makes sense to move Ranger and then put a Bronco product at the plant too - I feel like it'd make more sense to have all Bronco-related things at one plant (I'd assume they're sharing front ends, interiors, etc) than at two different plants. The only other way that approach might make sense would be if they're directly using the same size Ranger platform.

I think at this point, the answer to this would also depend on whether Lincoln is getting a version of the 4-door Mustang or not. If they are, there's no reason to bring Zephyr over. If they aren't, then I do think they should bring Zephyr over to give them a sedan offering.

I get what you're saying, though I think they went with Jeep because it's a stronger brand. I think it'd have been even more DOA as a Chrysler product.

GM suspends next-gen electric pickups - Automotive News General Motors has indefinitely delayed its next generation full-size electric truck program amid waning EV sales and a pivot back to the internal combustion engine and hybrid technology. The Detroit automaker had been developing lower cost, refreshed versions of the all-electric GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, and Hummer SUV and pickup with a targeted start of production in 2028, according to three people with knowledge of the plan who requested anonymity. Suppliers were recently informed that the next-gen electric truck program was halted with no new timetable specified. The Escalade IQ, underpinned by the same platform, is still expected for an “eyes-off driving” Super Cruise update in 2028. Supplier executives and analysts told Crain’s that they do not expect to see a new generation of the all-electric truck line until 2030 or beyond.

I’m not sure how meaningful internet speculation is, unless they’re going to try something really new and risky. I would think thats not a great idea because they already have LAP taking that risk, and whether or not TTP gets instantly unionized it will have to operate the same way where high utilization by higher margin product is a priority (although Ford has essentially gotten rid of every NA product that couldn’t meet these). I just think the simple/safe answer here, probably the Bronco pickup + shifting Ranger over so more regular Broncos can be made, is probably the best and doesn’t require much of a hype machine to work. Ford does space efficiency and hybrids better than any domestic competitor (at least IMO) so I’m not overly concerned with that. The latter is a large part of why I own one working within the constraints of my commitments to union-made.

That is thanks to the EPA's outdated and increasingly irrelevant classification system. the Ranger is a "midsize"while the compact Maverick has almost the same interior volume. So I think the new pickup will be slightly trimmer on the outside like Maverick but have interior volume equal to or greater than the current Ranger. Pirates be uppin' their game- You've no doubt seen ads for various thumb drive-like devices that you plug into an HDMI port on your big screen and stream a plethora of content without subscriptions. So I think as AI continues to develop, we will better understand how to plug'n'play vehicle subscription services like nav, level 3+ self driving etc. I can almost guarantee that all this wonderful new vehicle architecture that will save big bucks in manufacturing and resource costs won't show up on the MSRP, and that increasingly you will need a factory subscription drip just to unlock the fricking thing. -

And the plan will change two or three times till it actually happens in 3 years 😛 -
They’re keeping everyone in suspense regarding the new affordable pickup that will be built At Tennessee, just enough hints to get the internet going with speculation. At least e can dream of all the possibilities and whatever it is, Im betting space efficiency and super efficient ICE/battery combo.
