I've had several Mustangs over the years and I dont remember a back seat quite as small as this one. But then again, I probably didnt care when I was younger

S197 back seat is certainly larger than the one in my SN95 or any fox body I've been in. I think the "buckets" they integrated make them seem a lot smaller in comparison to the more bench-like layouts in previous models.

Not really.

Fox Body back seat (inches):

Head room - 35.9

Leg room - 30.7

Shoulder room - 54.3

S197 back seat (inches):

Head Room - 34.7

Leg room - 30.3

Shoulder room - 53.4

So while the Mustang has gotten much larger on the outside, the back seat has actually gotten smaller than it was 20+ years ago. To make things worse, people have gotten a little taller and heavier over the past 20 years.

I don't care what the actual measurements are. I've sat in plenty of both. The S197 is miles more comfortable in the back than any fox-based Mustang ever dreamed of.

Comfort is subjective. The person you were replying to said this:

You replied with:

He was right you were WRONG.

I wasn't trying to start an argument, I haven't actually sat in the back seat of a new Mustang, I test drove one, and after adjusting my seat to the way I liked it, I looked at the back seat and it looked like the drivers seatback was about 4 inches from the rear seat cushion. So, my assumption was it would be a tight fit.

In any case, I know the car is meant to be a 2 seater, a 2 + 2 in a pinch. So its really not about the car. I wish I could get one, just not practical for my particular situation.

Did the Tundra sell into the 15,000 + range last month and 14,000 + this month? Were there less selling days in April? I live on Long Island, which is like Toyota central here, yet I have only seen 5 new Tundras on the road since the intro and since my retirement, I do alot of trips around town. Much more now than when I was working.

Hmm. Things are crappy all over. I mean when TOYOTA drops year over year (using the aggregate, not DSR, numbers as they have consistently).....

So. What's next?

Seriously: What do you guys think is going to happen with the economy this year? Are we getting to the end of the purchasing power of the American consumer, etc.?

I mean, I'm not trying to dictate the topic, I'm just curious--without finger pointing and posturing and politicizing and blaming--what's going to happen the rest of 2007 and into 2008?

I'll just add my one little dig: Boy, sure does look like that new truck plant in San Antonio was a bad idea....

Well, I think the economy is going to tank in early summer. The perfect storm is brewing ( especially in the housing markets ) I personaly think that the DOW will be below 10,000 before the end of the year...

As for the numbers, I did not think that they were all that bad for Ford... It looks like all auto manufactures had a tough April... On the other hand, the fact that all manufactures had a bad April is the most troubling part of the whole thing. April is supposed to be a GOOD month. Ford is not is a good position weather a fininancial storm right now...

Bluecon may want to fix his quote from Henry Ford. The fact that you would mess up a quote like that may show that you have NO idea what you're talking about.

Let me fix that quote for you........

"There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who think they can and those who think they can't. And they're both right."

There, you are free to continue bashing, now that I fixed your obvious mistake. :happy feet:

The quote is accurate. Do you think it is possible that both quotes are accurate? Perhaps there is more than one quote from Henry Ford? Your first post and you are already wrong. It will be very difficult for you to match my 97.6% accuracy rate.

Good to see the Crown Vic is still chugging along - maybe the factory will in fact stay open until 2012 so I can still buy one more new Panther - my current one should be at around 140,000 miles then, which is "starting to think about replacement" time. Still, I'd like to see Ford bring the car into the 21st century powertrain and style-wise. Other than that, I completely dig it.

Who needs an SUV, when the kayak easily goes on the roof of the Grand Marquis with an aftermarket roof rack? Tows a camper as well with no problem.

If I didn't know better, I'd think they don't want to really sell me one, but would rather have me buy one of their new Eurojapanese wundercars.

S197 back seat is certainly larger than the one in my SN95 or any fox body I've been in. I think the "buckets" they integrated make them seem a lot smaller in comparison to the more bench-like layouts in previous models.

I can back you up as well. I own both a 1994 Mustang and a 2005 Mustang. I can barely fit in the back of the 94 (When sitting back there I have to bend my head to the side or my head wouldnt fit back there) *I'm 6'1 220lbs* However, whenever I'm in the back 2005 I can sit easily and in a comfortable way. I know numbers don't lie and according to the #'s the Foxes are bigger but sitting back there is a whole nother ball game. The 05 wins hands down.

Just to point out, the so called 'flop', Ford Fusion outsold the 'home run' Chrysler 300 again this past month. Isn't 'all of America' supposed to be driving RWD Mopars by now? Shows that 'enthusiasts' who skim car magazine don't 'know it all'. No, 'everyone' doesn't want a 17 mpg car and do not care about it "having RWD like the cars of the 60's".

Luxury brands are up, everyman brands are down.

The division of wealth gap widens.

DING DING DING! We have a winner

Look at what the recent quarterly earning statements from various companies this past month. Look at the record DOW numbers. The wealthy are doing just fine. Companies are making money hand over fist while the average working man sees stagnant wages, inflation and a depressing housing market.

Speaking of housing. What have alot of investors done? I'm talking about people with money, not your flip your house guy you see on TV. They're pulling their money out of real estate and going back into stocks.

Will we see an economic crash? I highly doubt it. But what are smart people in this country doing right now? They're watching their dollars. Either by choice or because they have no choice. Either they started seeing their housing cushion deflate or maxed out the HELOC. They're seeing the rising prices at the pump and in the grocery store and cutting back on their expenses or maxing our their Discover. And if they really do want a new car, but theirs is just fine, they're going to hold onto it and wait. They're going to save money, and many will probably add more to their 401Ks or mutual funds. So I don't see the DJIA going anywhere back to 10K or below. I do see a rough year ahead for auto manufacturers and dealers alike. Buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride for most people.
