08 Focus Prices LEAKED

Sorry, too high for me, my 99 Cougar stickered for less than $18k with a V6 5-speed and was a lot nicer vehicle than the current Focus will ever be. I realize this is a 2008 model, but come on...

 

What's the big deal? The new Focus is competitively priced. It comes with lots of features that many compact cars don't have or are options. The present Focus stickers in $17,000-19,000 range with ABS brakes, heated seats and other options. So it looks like new Focus is fairly priced if you consider it will come standard with side airbags and on 2007 Focus side airbags are expensive option. The Focus has never been some cheap compact car with its standard power windows, map lights, IRS suspension, automatic locking doors, and other nice touches. It looks to me like Ford has upgraded it further for 2008 with even more features. I guess the big variable will be rebates. I know present customers are used to $2,500 rebates and that will cause some sticker shock. But I would imagine Ford will start with $1,000 rebates to mitigate sticker shock a little.

Yeah.

 

And since Ford isn't

 

* improving the gas mileage

 

* upgrading the interior

 

* updating the appearance (so it doesn't look like a sawed up 2000)

 

* adding popular options (stability control, Sync, ambient lighting)

 

* adding standard safety features (side and curtain airbags)

 

There's NO reason why Ford should be able to raise the transaction price.

Equipment is one thing, but the issues that have kept the North American Focus cheap is the car itself. Having owned 3 North American Focus I can say that this car is big time cheap, maybe not the labour to build it, but structually, and the materials used from the plastics, disc brake material, switch gear, etc, the Focus is most definitely cheap, plus the fit and finish is a joke. I am not complaining about the dynamics, this is the C170s most positive aspect and beats all others in the segment.

 

If you judge a vehicle buy its equipment, then yes the Focus SES variants are nicely equipped.

 

I would take a base C1 Focus even without a radio anyday over a C170 SES variant for the reason that I know that I have a real car wrapped around me.

 

I moved from Canada to Estonia last week, and just purchased a MY2007 C1 Ford Focus Ghia Station wagon nicely equipped for a "One the road price" in Canadian dollars 22,268.00 or USD20,000.00. On the road price includes 18% tax, registration, license, and all fees.

 

Specs - Powerplant 1.6l TI-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) 115hp 115 ft/lb at 4150 rpm. Yes I know its not a race car but I have not had any problems with Bimmers or Mercs running me over in daily driving. :hysterical: And the wee engine is so much more refined then the (yes quicker) 2.0l

I had in my last 2 ZX5's. I do not miss the buzzy 2.0l at all.

Eh, I spent a full day in an '07 ZX5 last weekend. The fit and finish seemed great. The interior plastics were horribly hard, but they fit together very well. Nothing about the car really seemed flimsy in any way (except the pop-off auxiliary power jack covers...WTF?). The only thing that really drove me completely nuts was the muted wood block-sounding turn signal chime. AAAAAA!!!!!

Without a B car underneath the Focus, I don't see Ford asking these prices and actually getting them.

they will get people to buy , that is never an issue.

 

they just may not get as many as they like.

 

 

you can't just release a car for 14k and 07 and then jack the price to16k in 08 when the fiesta arrives. may as well take the loss in volume in 07 to not decapitate the fiesta next fall.

Well I didn't say it was a GREAT car, but I thought it was quite a bit better than I initially expected after all the harsh criticism I hear about it in here constantly. It was at least as well put together as one of my co-worker's Matrix (Corolla) I've spent considerable seat time in.

Well I owned a 02 SVT Focus and traveled in a couple Focus Taxis while in the UK and there wasn't a huge difference in the build or interior materials...hell the much vaunted Mondeo had the same plastic and pattern as my 06 Mustang does!

 

I think many people are just far too hard on North American built products because they expect them to be bad and when presented with something thats decent, they automatically tune it out...but at the same time I'm not saying that Ford North America walks on water....

Spare tire, jack, mounting hardware. It may not be 100 lbs, but it sure has to be up there.

I'd be amazed if the tire alone weighs more than 20 lbs, jack can't be more than 8-10lbs, and the lug wrench a pound or two... And mounting hardware is nothing more than a stamped steel plate and a little penny threaded stud.

 

Whole package couldn't weigh more than 40lbs -tops- and I would be really surprised if it weighs more than 30lbs.

Your Cougar would cost about $22,000 today, with inflation factored in. That $6,000 difference between that and the Focus SES will buy me a nice turbo that'll put the Cougar back on the trailer.

 

Yeah, too bad I mentioned nothing about the Cougar being the faster car. :finger: I simply pointed out that my old 99 Cougar cost about the same back then, yet was twice the car as the Focus, present and future. It has nothing to do with 1/4 mile times or adding high performance parts. I no longer own the Cougar, haven't since I purchased my 2002 Mustang, but I do miss it. Your assessment of adding $6k to the current Focus to make it the faster car simply doesn't add up.

I've always thought the Focus's turn signal sounded like a Snapple lid popping.

Haha, that's EXACTLY what it sounds like. It annoyed me. Maybe it brought back memories of when Snapple first came out and kids in class would ALWAYS snap them constantly while everyone was supposed to be doing something quiet.

I dont believe that they eliminated the spare tire at all. Does someone have documentation, or a pic of the real car?

 

Ford should have renamed the platform # so then it could be called 'new', and then the whiners can STFU. It is not as if the 08 is a 1981 Escort or 71 Pinto. The C1 is not so far ahead of c170 that it will 'rid the world of Terrorism and cancer'.

 

I am sure that when the 2012 Focus is here, whiners will complain that it isn't all European, since they think the US should still be a British Colony.

 

And one more thing, who still thinks 14,000 is 'way to muich' for a well equipped compact? It isn't 1987!

Stay with me here........YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - USUALLY.

 

My 2005 Focus ST is what the small car segment needs, 2.3 L, moonroof, tilt & telescope, CC, PW, PL, seat heaters, traction control, 6 disc Sony Audiophile system with steering wheel controls, body kit is subtle, 4 wheel disc brakes, SVT struts & shocks, antiroll bars, leather wheel & shifter knob.etc, etc.

 

The only option I'm missing is the side airbags.

 

MSRP was $20,490. I paid $16,212 after $2,500 rebate and using X-plan.

 

I will replace this car in 57,000 miles before my 100K extended warranty expires.

 

To this package, I added a SCT Premium fuel performance tune, Steeda CAI, a Steeda short shifter, medium tint, BFG G-Sport tires, Mobil 1, and my radar detector.

 

I just turned 33,200 today, runs perfect gets 26-28 in the heat, 29-32 w/o A/C...like that happens much here in FL...

 

I would buy another ST, but of course Ford quit making them due to poor sales...never advertised here, never in the showroom etc, etc.

 

Now I am OK with a Fusion, but not enough to buy one....

 

So I will likely either take the 2007 Mercedes C230 Sport, (so far 21-22 city, 28-29 hwy, and only 5500 miles on it, far short of the 10K break-in period it takes to loosen up) from my wife and buy her a new ML 320 CDI, or buy a Jetta TDI, at a projected 50 +mpg it will make sense for my 100 mile/day drive.

 

Before all you parrots tell me VW sucks etc, remember that I was a Service Manager for VW/Porsche/Audi for 5 years, and we still have 2 in the family...no problems beyond maintenance...

 

I like interesting performance vehicles and the ST fits that niche, the regular Focus does not.

 

I also like our 2002 SVT Focus, but not as much as the torque enhanced ST.

 

Ford is losing me gradually, due to horrific depreciation, poor choice of options and colors and just generally, except for the Mustang, mediocre uninteresting products.

 

We love our Mustangs......
