New Mach-E due in 2028, Maverick in 2031

I don't know how much we can trust these timelines. They seem completely fabricated more often than not. According to similar timelines, we're gonna be getting s750 replacing s650 before 2030. The next gen mustang isn't even in the pre planning phase based on what insiders are saying, so there's no way that's accurate. 

 

It's the same for all of these other models. They might occasionally guess the right year of release, but that's all it is. With how hot maverick is, waiting a decade from initial release to the second gen makes zero sense if you're trying to keep it competitive. These dates are bunk.

I think some people's timelines have been distorted because of COVID.

 

The Maverick was relieved in 2021 and didn't go on sale till the end of that year as a 2022. We are getting a minor refresh for the 2025MY at the end of this year. I'm sure that their will be some sort of major refresh towards 2028/29. I see no major issue with the Maverick using the C1 platform for 10 years, as long as the updates are steady on it, which so far they are.

 

Plus consider that the Compact/midsized EV pickup will be out in 2027-I have a feeling its going to be a little smaller then the Ranger (210in) and a little bigger then the Maverick (199in), so that might dig into the sales numbers for both of them.

 

The Mach E went on sale in December 2020. So coming out with a second gen one 8 years later isn't a bad thing and I'm guessing its going to be using a lot of the tech from the Skunkworks EV program also.

Some solid points, I agree that the mach-e timeline is reasonable, 8 years is a little long, but certainly not abnormal. Plus it'll give time for the electric car market to develop, and for lessons learned from CE1 to be applied to a second gen mach-e as you pointed out.

 

Where this is throwing me for a loop is the maverick. Sure, refreshes will help, but they're a class leader here, they're running away with it. But I'm concerned Ford's gonna do what Ford does, come out with a great product, and then let it die on the vine with these decade gaps in between generations. They're starting to do it with the bronco sport, it hasn't changed a ton since being introduced, this latest refresh hardly changed anything, and I'm nervous it's gonna happen again with the maverick.

As for the mach-e, the most surprising bit of this news is that we're getting a second gen at all. I'll be curious to see how they evolve that product both stylistically, and in terms of the platform. My guess is a move to CE1 or a performance variety of that platform, and styling cues previewing s750, longer, lower, more aggressive and exotic hopefully. 

 

The mach-e was a really great product for a first effort imo, great looks, good driving dynamics and performance, etc. But the price and platform limitations held it back. If Ford can improve upon that for gen 2, it'll be an incredible product.

Well Ford still needs EV products to sell, even though they are shifting from larger products to smaller ones. I don't think getting rid of the Mach E without some sort of replacement would be a smart move.

I don't either, especially considering the mach-e does a halfway decent job at achieving Ford's goal of making aspirational EVs that are differentiated.

Maverick is C2. If there is another MachE, it will be on a different platform. (Same as small EV truck Ford has planned for 2027 or so).

Why they never gave us a Shelby variant I'll never know. It seems like that was the direction they wanted to go in, and just hit a wall.

I think they don't want to pay extra for the Shelby name to use on products. But we'll see how that shakes out in the future.

C1 and C2 aren't all that different. A lot of things where recycled or changed slightly (at least interior wise) on my Wife's 2017 Escape vs her 2024 Bronco Sport.

It wouldn't even have to be a Shelby if licensing fees were unreasonable, just a higher performance mach-e over the gt. It just feels like they released the mach-e, and for the most part, haven't really touched in since. It's been out since what? Around 2020, almost 5 years. They've added the rally trim, and some small tweaks, but that's about it.

The Mach E is pretty much on an orphan chassis, so it's unlikely to get significant investment. The investment is being plowed into the next gen products.

I would just like to point out the Mach-E has received a lot of changes under the hood. New battery chemistries, whole new rear motor designed and built in house, the frunk was redesigned to be done with fewer parts, just for a start. New GT is supposed to have 700 lb/ft of torque when it is released this fall and be faster than Model Y performance.

 

When Mach-E was first was released, EPA efficiency ratings were well below Tesla Model Y, now they are fairly close.

 

That being said, they need to get it back to where it qualifies for tax credit. I think that is happening soon. And a few styling tweaks to keep it fresh wouldn't hurt.

I toured the Shelby factory about a year ago, and they had a bunch of Mach-e's being worked on. I asked them what they did to those besides stripes and wheels and maybe some handling tweaks. I mean, it's not like they can drop in a supercharger or something. Tour guide told me they had some software upgrades to improve performance but the most requested upgrade was a sound "box" that attaches below the car. She had a technician bring one over to demonstrate. I was skeptical but dang, it sounded good. If I closed my eyes I would swear it was a real v-8.

 

I don't know shape or size of the box but it wasn't visible from where I stood.

Not changing any of the body panels on the MME over the course of eight years will impact sales IMO.   You can get away with not changing the underpinnings, but to do nothing on the body or the interior feeds into the common Ford stereotype of letting vehicles die on the vine.

Ford basically made everything better by 1) weight reduction of roughly 250 lbs in Escape

and 2) replacing CD4 used in larger vehicles, so probably an even bigger weight reduction.

 

In a properly applied one Ford, C2 would have occurred earlier and probably kept all of those

Ford Europe based vehicles a lot more affordable.

It seems like c2 is the first Ford platform in a while that cared about quality/reliability. If it's a lot of proven carry over parts from c1, that explains why it hasn't been a total disaster.

agreed.  It needs to have some styling changes to keep going so long.

i don’t think Puma is on C2, but I’ve seen a LOT of them over here and it’s a good looking vehicle.

on the flip side, I’ve seen a lot of new Fiestas and Focii, and I don’t think they’d have moved the needle.   Maintained sales perhaps, but they’re honestly boring, even if a good looking vehicle.

Puma is a subcompact on the B2E global platform with the likes of Fiesta/Ecosport/Transit Courier

When it comes to Fiesta and Focus, they were cancelled after  a lot of refresh money was diverted

to other products. Been flying on fumes for years, Ford does that when it wants to ensure they die.

Mustang Mach E was suppose to go to GE2 platform but honestly Ford could just

continue the evolved GE1 design with running improvements like done so far with

better battery pack,  Ford designed electric motors, new control systems. 
 

The top hat has the same construction process as C2 which lowers costs over something

totally unique, a refresh of the body would be no biggy for Ford. All the cost savings and

improvements will come from the electrics side, so Ford could push MME out to 2028 easy.
