2026 Ford F-150 Lobo Prototypes Indicate Street Performance Pickup On The Way

Recommended Posts

I think this is a good move, honestly.  It'll be interesting to see what powertrains they offer, though.  Is it going to be more of an appearance package, or is there going to actually be some sort of performance aspect to it (i.e. is it a "street Raptor" or is it just the regular 3.5 with some performance looks).

Seeing 2 different setups in photos, it almost makes it seems like it's more of an appearance package than a standalone model like Raptor.

Or if they want to go really nuts, the 5.2 from the raptor r and gt 500.

Seems pretty no brainer to me to take the raptor body, slam it on the ground, make it awd and offer the R engine if they really want to get back into the street truck market. But like you said, this looks a lot like an appearance package.

That’s a good point with the wider stance for added stability in cornering (yes it’s a truck I know), we’ll see I guess!

I would prefer it bare no resemblance to my truck at all, lol, considering sport trucks are not my thing.

However, they certainly could use the Raptor motor to beef up the performance though.

But please, dump the name.  I’m sorry, it sucks.

If you want a performance sports truck, build another Lightning. If it wasn’t built by Ford Performance then it’s a trim package.

Could've called this one Thunder lol.

Nobody is saying it'd be a lowered Raptor looks wise.....just that the wider stance would make sense.

Thunder should be a BEV Expedition. There was a concept expedition version of the OG Lightning called Thunder.

Im surprised we never saw the supped up Lightning Farley teased (or a power upgrade add on like the Mach-E).

Eh, to that idea, I'd say why create a whole 'nother sub-brand at that point (similar argument to creating Timberline for the SUVs, which is now being replaced by the trucks Tremor name).....just use Lightning.

So two vastly different F150 Lightnings?

Huh?

No......

My suggestion was to use the "Thunder" name here instead of Lobo (still don't love the name).  He said Thunder was a concept of an Expedition with the Lightning treatment back in the early 2000s, and should be the name used on a BEV Expy.  To which I was saying, no, just use Lightning branding there too (i.e. Expedition Lightning for a BEV model), as there's no point of creating a separate BEV sub-brand for the SUVs.  And my example of why not was what happened with SUV brand, Timberline, which is now being replaced with the truck trim, Tremor, as they were essentially duplicates, except one was SUV, the other truck.

OK, I don’t disagree, however, I think thunder is too close to lightning. If you have a vehicle that’s thunder that’s not a BEV then what does that mean for lightning?

I’m not a huge fan of the Lobo name either, though I think it works better for Maverick than it does for the F150.

How about F150 Falcon? After all, a falcon is a type of raptor.

The Falcon Ranchero pickup from the 60s was car-based, so maybe a good fit for the Maverick?

Ford did trademark the Thunder name a while back - I figured it'd be a Raptor-like performance version of Lightning.

F-150 Falcon doesn't sound good/make sense.

I don’t believe this was ever fully unveiled:

There’s also the switchgear:

https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2024/01/17/f-150-lightning-goes-off-road-with-switchgear-demonstrator.html

I don’t expect something as radical/expensive (for Ford to produce in limited volume) as a switchgear/raptor to make production.

I am surprised there hasn’t been something equivalent to a Mach-E GT, or GT PE.  Even just an available performance upgrade would be welcome.

Would Ford consider a Ranger Lobo? That would be pretty cool.

one would have to assume it will at some point.......especially since Maverick and F-150 seem to be getting it.
