I remember back in the mid-eighties when shopping for a replacement service van for Dad's TV store, I decided to put my "Pro-Ford" bias aside and look at all 1/2 ton vans...got quotes from the Chevrolet dealer and then went to the GMC dealer (dealer also sold Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick) and the salesman there tried to tell me that GMC vans were better because they use thicker metal in the body panels.....I laughed.    We ended up with an E-150....

No, this was in the context of killing GMC and making a Silverado Denali instead with the same grille and interior.  I guess it was a brand prestige snobbery thing.
