I've never liked the dimensions on the current ranger, especially the crew cab.  

Looking at the dimensions of the Maverick, Ranger and F-150 you can see that the current Ranger doesn’t split the difference very well. The Ranger is much closer in size to the Maverick than the F-150.    Growing the size of the F-100 by several inches will position it more equally between them and achieve what @jpd80 is talking about. This makes sense to me.
