I think Ford targeted the markets that needed more affordable models right away.
In the Philippines (one of the Territory's strong markets) the PHEV BYD Sealion 6 is gaining market share and Ford's Territory sales are down. Coincidence? They have similar pricing. Electrified vs traditional ICE.
Yikes my friends. Toyota design is very hit or miss, and this is a miss for me. The combination of the stubby hood and thick c-pillar looks so disproportionate. It's basically the opposite of a bronco sport, which is good looking as hell, maybe even better looking than the full sized bronco imo.
I’m aware and agree completely. My son does almost the same exact type of trip between Houston and Dallas in his Tesla, and has shared range and charging details with me to analyze. A very short snack and or bathroom break on way there and on way back is all that is required, and his Model 3 has less overall rated range than I assume your Lightning (you have larger battery IIRC).
What I find interesting is that his previous-generation Model 3 with smaller ~60 kWh battery (compared to newer Model 3 Long Range) still accomplishes about the same as the Lightning because it gets roughly twice the miles per kWh of battery capacity, and also charges much faster because of it (measured in miles per hour, not kW of electricity). IMO efficiency is a huge asset in driving costs down, a necessary part of BEV adoption for the masses.
On topic of efficiency, Mercedes-Benz released information on upcoming CLA which highlights how much improvement has been made in this field. WLTP range is almost 800 km or 500 miles with only 85 kWh battery, which if reduced to USA EPA rating, should still exceed 5 miles per kWh. M-B is using a 2-speed transmission, similar to Porsche, that uses a low gear around town for performance, and a much taller ratio on the highway for added efficiency. A very low Cd helps too.
Most important may be that it uses a next-generation battery in high voltage arrangement that charges at up to 320 kW, which when combined with vehicle efficiency allows up to 200 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes. Have no idea what the CLA cost will be, but the technology is impressive except for those who don’t like compact and or aerodynamic-looking vehicles. 😀
