Hugh
I say keep the Focus name ...name the bcar Escort............ I agree with that. Personally, I think Fiesta when I think B Platform. To bad most people don't and think Festiva and Aspire. Oh well. Escort has my vote.
BORG
Is Ford really lifting the Fiesta wholesale from Europe? I thought Ford's new B-Car was being designed with Mazda for the US market exclusiely? In that case, there is no reason to use Fiesta (nor would I recommend it). Escort would also be a poor choice, it's an old name and would only register with a much older crowd (not the target audience). A new name is in order here. I have an idea, if they come out with a Mini-SUV on the B-car, why not call it an Escort? It would fit in well with the current E SUV naming Scheme and not to mention Escorts are normally smaller then the things they are escorting Thats if the Bronco name isn't used, which has bad connotation with people since they first thing they think of is OJ

Mazda and Ford OE started this program as the new gen of the Demio/Mz2 and Fiesta/EcoSport/ EU Fusion. Later on (right after Fields took over) Ford NA joined as well, and started working with Ford OE on US version of the car. Mazda2 was the first to be revealed. This Frankfurt show we should see the EU Fiesta, and next January we will see the concept of the US Fiesta. There will be only 2 actual version of Fiesta in the next generation (unlike the 4 or so in the current one) - the Global Fiesta and the Chinese Fiesta version. Markets like India and Brazil (and US) will not longer get the option to significantly re-engineer the car. They will have options of some minor tweaks, but the car underneath will be identical, and so will be vast majority of the visible car. The most visible change might be an altered front and rear clips. Otherwise we are mostly talking options packaging. There is still talk of developing the Reflex as an upscale b-class coupe - but that was not approved yet. At this point the most likely scenario is the Reflex becoming new Puma - and being global. However, those who went to the Showroom of Tomorrow say the next gen Fiesta takes heavily from the looks of the Reflex, and is stunning. Hopefully they were right - Ford could use a home run. B-max (the new name or the EcoSport and EU Fiesta) is a given in Europe and Brazil, and very likely in US. Igor
joihan777
I LIKE the name Escort. Why? Because my very first new-car was a 91' Escort LX. I totally miss that car. If a lady hadn't pulled into traffic without checking her blind spot my ol' Escort would still be around. 1.9L I-4 on a 5-speed manual. I drove that thing like a wanabe Porsche! It looked good in midnight blue too! So yeah, I would love to see the Escort return.
630land
Ask anyone under 30/25 [market for B size cars], and they don't remember the 1980s cars. To them, the 2nd and 3rd genertion, better made Scorts are popular. Lasting much longer than the 1st generation 80's cars. Too many Boomers/Gan X'rs are still stuck thinking the 80's were 'only a few years ago', but so some simple math. twintornados
How about the Ford Enviro The other manufacturers come up with names....some don't even make any sense ("Toyota Yaris" comes to mind), so I would recommend that the name be targeted to the youth market, so that it will have an appeal to them....the older gen will gravitate to it as long as it is a Ford. The Five Hundred-to-Taurus name scheme doesn't really apply here since that car is targeted to an entirely different demographic. Think outside of the box so to speak. Ford Enviro Ford Leaf Ford Flair ( I kinda like this one...a play on the famous Fairlanes...without directly using the name) I am sure we will get more "smart ass" responces, but all names should go on the table for review....you never know when a name will just jump up at you and be "right" Edited May 15, 2007 by twintornados

156n3rd
Sorry to have come to this subject late. I read the first 2 pages of comments. I love the Maverick name because at the time it represented small car value, which is what we're looking for anyway. Escort is cool too. Let's not forget Meteor, even though it was used on a Mercury. Then, there's always the Pony to consider as well. Sorry if I've duplicated your choices. I have not been participating as of late as I have switiched from working middles (since 12/99) to day shift. It is a wonderful experience. My wife's '92 Satrun SL2 is at 217,455 as of today and still going strong. The interior is disintergrating.

Watchdevil
Ford need to ditch the old names and create a campaign around a new nameplate with strong imagery... Something that people can easily relate to and never forget.... SKATEBOARDERS THINK IT'S AWESOME... YO YO YO TH' DAWG THINKS IT'S HOT! IT PUTS DELIGHT ON A CHILD'S FACE... IT GIVES GRANNY HOT FLASHES... IT EVEN GETS A SALUTE FROM THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN AMERICA... FROM THE MAKERS OF BOLD MOVES LIKE THE BREASTANG AND THE PROSTANG... HERE IS FORD'S BOLDEST MOVE EVER... CUMMING TO A DEALER NEAR YOU! ... And it conforms to F-name nomenclature... Edited May 21, 2007 by Watchdevil
