Bob Rosadini
Well today's Detroit News (wwwdetnews.com) has a piece on the new F-100 that some of you have bee taliking about recently. Great news- but the dumb part is, it wont be ready until 2011. Sooooooo- why not keep St.Paul open for two more years, tweak the Ranger a bit, MARKET it, and not leave the segment before the new truck arrives??? Oh and as for calling it F-100, anyone who knows what an F-100 was, is an old bastard like me. What's wrong with "Ranger"?? Hey Ford Marketers- didn't Alan tell you guys (opps and girls) that you were stupid when you threw out the Taurus name?? Learn from your mistakes. The Ranger was once in the top ten seller list. It has a loyal following. Capitalize on what you have!

akirby
Oh and as for calling it F-100, anyone who knows what an F-100 was, is an old bastard like me. What's wrong with "Ranger"?? I remember, and I'm only 45. My favorite vehicle in high school was a 77 F100 Ranger XLT (regular cab, short wheelbase). I plan to buy and restore one sometime in the future. Two reasons for F-100: 1 - the ranger isn't necessarily going away 2 - calling it ranger won't include it in "F series" sales numbers
NickF1011
there are intensified rumors of Ranger moving to Louisville when Explorer moves out ... we shall see Igor Rumor all they want. Unless Ford is planning some significant upgrades to the current Ranger when they plan to move it, it's dead. All the marketing in the world won't make it legal to sell without stability control and side airbags.

pcsario
So is the F100 the Ranger replacement, or a truck the size of the outgoing F150? A lot of mixed signals on this.
NickF1011
So is the F100 the Ranger replacement, or a truck the size of the outgoing F150? A lot of mixed signals on this. The '09 F-150 is basically the same size as the current F-150, so that's not it. I predict the F-100 being more the size of the 96-03 F-150, with the Ranger still existing as the traditional "compact" pickup.
focus05
The F-100 will be about the same size as the Toyota Tacoma - maybe slightly larger. The global Ranger will be the size of our current Ranger. Ford is doing exactly what they need to to keep "F-series" the top-selling brand as long as possible with the F-100.
pcsario
Yeah the '09 seems to be mostly taller. I asked because some people are comparing its size to the current F150, and a lot of folks are confused.

92merc
The current Ranger and F150 both have been slowly growing in size and capability. I think the F150 has just about grown itself out of slot. Right now the Canyon and Tacoma sit in. But I can also remember the days of the Ford Courier small truck. I think the new global Ranger will be about the same size. It might drop a bit in towing power, but that's it. The F100 I think would be perfect for most of us who have a truck, but don't tow or haul regularly. As long as it could tow 6k lbs, I'd be happy. Ford is just re-adjusting it's vehicle niches. Just like when the old Taurus left, just like when the Contour left and the Escort left. Like when the Bronco II and Bronco's left and the Explorer came in. Nothing new, all review...

I'm confused, it looks like two trucks on the drawing board that are almost exactily the same.

The T6 is unibody though right? I figure the F100 will be a bit bigger, more capable, and Body on Frame

From what I've seen and heard about T6, it's not much bigger than the current global Ranger, which is more or less the same size as the one sold in the US now. NLPRacing
Nope T6 is the same size as Tacoma as well.I'm confused, it looks like two trucks on the drawing board that are almost exactly the same. The rumor is that the F100 will be a 7/8 scale size of the 97-03 F150, which would be bigger then the Tacoma. The T6 will be the so-called "compact", the F100 will be the mid size and F150 and up will be full size, from what I understand...

fordsterling
so what IS going to Louisville?! Igor Depending which way the wind blows, people are saying the next focus, explorer, or the F100. Who knows. :boring:
Surgen
so what IS going to Louisville?! Igor Something that's not a Ranger.
jpd80
The rumor is that the F100 will be a 7/8 scale size of the 97-03 F150, which would be bigger then the Tacoma. The T6 will be the so-called "compact", the F100 will be the mid size and F150 and up will be full size, from what I understand... At the moment, there is a big gap between Ranger's width at approx 71" and F150 at approx 79". I can see how there would be room in the market to offer three different truck with smaller size increments. If the F100 is a reach down from the F150, it's possible that a mid width truck (76") may win a lot of people who want a reasonable dual cab or long bed but don't want to tow huge loads. It also gives the customer a sense of Ford desigining trucks specifically for them - a personal connection?
