The Fiesta and what you expect out of it

Will the 4cyl Ecoboost have dual turbos?

Will the Fiesta, above entry level, come standard with a 6 speed duel clutch transmission and an Ecoboost engine?

Will SYNC and GPS be options on the Fiesta?

Dual turbo's? Are you insane. The Fiesta will be a small car with a small price...an entry level vehicle with excellent fuel mileage and help Ford meet new CAFE standards. Maybe RS version will follow, but I doubt if many will be willing to pay premium price for Fiesta RS with two turbos and all the extra hardware and maintenance that goes with it. Those turbos spin in excess of 30,000 RPM's and can be troublesome if engine is not maintained well. Most, including me want no part of turbo engine. I wouldn't mind DI, but I don't want the expense and trouble of a turbo. VW, btw, doesn't have a great reputation for reliability and is still fighting to improve it.

How many dual turbo 4 cylinder cars are there. What would the benefit be anyway? You would be adding a great deal of plumbing complexity. How much more power would you see from a twin turbo 4?

I can certainly understand a dual turbo V-6 but not a straight 4.

If it doesn't get at least 42-45 mpg forget it, why bother. This car meant to be fuel efficient and if they can't muster near 50mpg with todays technology, we got a problem. The ball is in Ford's court and they need to blow the competition away. There wil always be Ford haters for life but this could help erase some of the "American cars get poor MPG" argument. Couple high mpg with damn good reliabilty and Import lovers have no argument left, only the "I'll never buy a Ford" slogan they never seem to stop spewing.

Wow............... close to 50, when noone else is even around 40 with a B car.

Thats a pretty tall order. Somehow, I don't think you are going to be happy, if that is what you expect in a $13-16K car.

I guess we will see. If the Fiesta gets anywhere close to that............... paint me surprised.

Would it be reasonable to expect Ford to trade 1-2 mpg in an effort to achieve 5-star/Top Safety Pick NHTSA/IIHS ratings?

When you're driving in a little car seemingly a foot shorter than the bumpers of many SUV's, a sense of security would be just as desireable as fuel economy IMHO.

Going by recent reviews, Fiesta's adjusted mileage is around 38 MPG.

That's with the new, modern, smooth as silk 1.6L I4 we won't get, and without the dual clutch tranny.

And no, the point behind b-cars is to have a nice, profitable and reasonable entry level model in the 14-17k spot.

45-50 MPG / "Will kill the competition" / etc. Like I said... the cheerleaders set themselves up for dissapointment since day 1.

If you really wanted Ford to get rid of its poor image when it comes to mileage, you shouldn't have rooted for, and cheered their hybrid SUV years ago, which did nothing to steal attention away from the Prius - and even helped Toyota further, image-wise, thanks to Ford's retarded PR department, which handled the whole patent swap issue terribly bad, and left everyone thinking Ford just purchased Toyota's system.

i drove escorts from 1983 to 1990 really waiting to see what the fiesta has in store for us my 83 with it,s doggy 1.6 still delivered well over 42 miles per gallon on thruway if the fiesta comes close to those numbers and can add in many refinements along the way it will indeed sell many thousands of cars. if it competes with focus sales once again ford will have shot itself in the foot. :redcard:

It may be "supposed" to get 45 MPG, but who knows? GM is so "all over the place" with the Cruze and Volt, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that GM says they'll slide up-hill. :)

Explain me your logic here.

You blindly believe in Ford's Ecoboost BS, but when GM does it, then they're lying.

They're using a brand new, state of the art 1.4L engine with a turbo, for the Cruze.

FNA using a shitty, ancient, noisy, coarse 1.6L NA engine for our Fiesta, and a 1.8L for the Focus.

Funny how at the end of the day, it seems GM is the company that will bring "Ecoboost tech" to the masses.

Simple, really. See if you can follow the reprise: Pioneer posted that the Cruze was "supposed to get 45 mpg". In replying, I pointed out that GM has "been all over the place" with claims about the Cruze and the Volt, with the latter being presented as deus ex machina.

So we have the Cruze: no specifications for size, weight, no powertrain specifics. As well, it seems that over the last 6 months, the Volt's configuration and pricing changes constantly. It's all over the place speculation. Capice?

So, we have a Fiesta coming that should be competitive. So far, powertrain details have not been released, except that the Ford/Getrag transmission will be available. You believe that the engine will be an old, tired design. We shall see. Ford knows that the product has to be competitive in its price segment.

The only certainty is, however the Fiesta arrives, you won't like it. :)

38 is where I think it will come in...and really what is wrong with that? I will beleive the cruzes 45 mpg when i see it...bunch of blowhard claims it seems mimicing the Prius's exagerated claims. Hell if the car is 14-16k that is an 11000 savings over Toyotas premadonna...@$4 a gallon thats 2750 gallons @ 38mpgs = 104500 miles.....BEFORE 1 mile has been put on the yoda....pretty cheap OVERALL cost of ownership i would say.... :shades:

Why don't Ford fit the 90 MPG 200 MPH General Motors Duramax 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel in the Fiesta Ed that would be fun :)

funny, same engine in real world scenario gets less than 18mpg. Love the SHOCK factor aimed at impressing the media that manufacturers THROW out there...so far removed from reality as to be ludicrous.

Competative at 38 MPG?

LINK

Chevrolet will also introduce the 37 mpg Cobalt XFE, which means there's a compact car that out performs all of the subcompacts on the highway.

Why buy a B car and be stuffed into a smaller car, when a C car can give you the same MPG?

Also, according to the article, GM is making XFE (Xtra Fuel Economy) versions of CURRENT product that will be available next model year. Why does For make us wait years for fuel economy gains in current products, or just leave things alone until redesigns?

Neer...no MPGS are set in stone, we are all guessing...I personally have a distinct disdain for speculative #'s thrown out by manufacturers to impress...only to be edited when reality becomes apparent...the most blatant was the Prius....now we have idiots like VW, Chevy Cruze/ Volt throwing out numbers the press are feasting on...well guess what?...none of these INCREDIBLE vehicles are actually on the road or have verified REAL numbers...so hey, lets go with the flow, throw out the 38 mpg ( because it sounds realistic ) bump that up 10 mpgs just to impress....Fiesta to acheve 48mpg's.....retractions to be had later....worship the superiority now...

That's how Microsoft defeated Apple in the 90's: Promise the world, deliver the bare minimum. The next version will be 10 times better than anything from Apple, we SWEAR, THIS TIME WE MEAN IT!

on the $ Noah...bunch of BS, smoke and mirrors....seems like ford doesn't play that game to the extent of some others...seems they realize the media has a Ford "vendetta" for some reason...so its best to quote realistic if not conservative #'s rather than set oneself up for a public flogging that imports are so UN-familiar with....
