Motor Trend does a story on the 2012 Ford Ranger and I would buy one if I could.

Guess Ford is giving up one the Ranger folks in the USA. I had three Rangers and like everyone.

Wish someone at Ford Management would listen to what the public want s and not the USA ruining Bean Counters.

Also wish people didn't get beat up on this site for maybe saying the same thing. There are many Ranger owners out there that don't pay attention, don't read Motor Trend and don't realize that Ford will no longer offer them a new Ranger replacement. This is just beginning.

I predict Ford is alienating a bunch of long-time customers. You don't build something as reliable and long-lasting as these Rangers and not offer a replacement for them.

Anyway, quit giving these posts grief. There will be more - probably a lot more. Including even on this site.

I was actually impressed that the corporate bobbleheads haven't been more harsh on this post. :stirpot:

And I'm upset there is no longer an Escort wagon.

Ranger is done. End of story. All the moaning and crying in the world wont change that. Move on with your life.

Moaning and bitching saved the Mustang from being badge engineered onto the FWD MX-6/Probe platform. Ford needs to put out a statement saying they're committed to the sub-fullsize market and that they have *something* in the pipeline. Asinine statements from the CEO about small/mid-size truck shoppers cross-shopping Fiesta and Transit Connect do not help.

And, what are you folks thinking? That the Ranger folks will give up their rather outstanding 4X4 products for a Transit or Fiesta? Neither is offered in 4X4 and well, just not in the cards for those of us using these little trucks hard all the time. They are tough trucks and will be hard to replace. Some of us need a good small truck. In my case, we also have two F-150's. They are simply too big for a lot of things. May buy another one but the Rangers will get replaced with something smaller.

Don't even talk to me about the bloated F-150 in V-6 form. I don't need the turbo version for anything. The other V-6 engine is pathetic strapped to this heavy truck.

The Ranger 4X4 was the last possible glimmer that Ford had into an off-road vehicle. OK, the Raptor, but really. Even wider than the current F-150? Talk about a limited production vehicle.

So, Ford will push me out to looking at other manufacturers for the first time in a very long time. Doubt I am alone. Might find a new home out there. As opposed to the current thinking, I'll replace my Rangers with another manufacturer's vehicle. And, frankly, I don't think the current F-150's are unbeatable.

So, now I get to shop around. Way to go Ford!

I am rephrasing what a Ford spokes person said from memory.. but it goes something like this:

Ford is aware of the situation and is currently under the impression that the F150 can have its fuel economy boosted to levels that "will serve the American truck market" AND If fuel prices rise high enough, the T6 ranger is already built with US safety standards in mind. The T6 in the US would start at approx $17,500 and top out at over $40K depending on the configuration. For now the F150 is more capable and offers excellent fuel economy compared to its competitors.

They also reiterated that the new global ranger is 90% of the size of an F150.....that being near 6" shorter, 6" narrower.

To me 6" in those dimensions is a significant change. There's also a 3-5 Mpg difference between the Global Ranger and an F150.

I still believe we will see the Global Ranger, but probably not until 2015 at the earliest.

If being 6" narrower and 6" shorter makes T6 Ranger is 90% of F150,

then Tacoma at 3" narrower and 6" shorter must be 97% of F150......

Perhaps the best alternative for North America is to make F150 and F250 a little smaller and lighter

to capture more of their respective markets, a slightly smaller lighter F150 would capture more of

the mid sized market while giving up some of its upper capacity to a slightly smaller lighter F250..

Any loss in upper capacity to the F250 would then be captured by F350.....

..... make F150 ........a little smaller and lighter....

This can be accomplished with existing tooling....same frame, lighter components i.e. lighter duty rear differential and spring packs, same goes for front end components, use Expedition nose and doors, lower the top sill of the box to match the lower window openings of the Expedition doors and make the exterior box panels out of composite material. Guess~timate would be 500-750 lbs in weight savings, the truck would look visually smaller than F150 and you could name it F100....

Or, you could have an Expedition style "Sport Trac" with four door cab and 4-5 foot box....

Or you could build a pickup truck version of the pending T-Series coming out of Kansas City....

My reasoning for suggesting a slight narrowing / downsizing of F150 is that it has more than enough towing capacity

and probably pinches a few sales that should go to F250 which is better at heavier towing. maybe re arranging the trucks

so that a new F150-F250 covers 90% of the Ranger-F150-F250 market is the best outcome for the US, striking balance

and the sweet spot with F150 to maximize sales with the chance of increasing sales to F250 as well has to be lucrative...

There is surely plenty of room for Ford to do something here in terms of Ranger replacement. Are we in love with our current Rangers? Yes and no. They are really stout, reliable vehicles - hard to argue. They have no doubt needed more updates for a while now - also hard to argue.

Was I in love with my 1995 F-150 4X4? Absolutely. It was about the right size, nice riding, capable with the 302 EFI and a really good vehicle for its time. If we had ordered it with the short-wheel base, I might still have it.

The F-150 has gotten too big, the Ranger has been allowed to stay too small. Surely with Ford's resources they can resolve this issue. Hopefully sooner than later for a lot of us.

Leaving a good many, hard core customers in the dark is not the best strategy. Some of us do have to replace vehicles at some point and there is a big gap in Ford's truck line-up now without a Ranger replacement.

As a current owner of a first generation Toyota Tundra, this (T6 Ranger or down sized F150) sounds about what I'm interested in.

I'm looking at replacing it with something similar sized at about 90% of a full size.

The current F150 & Tundra are too big for what I need or want, and the Tacoma doesn't appeal to me.

I may just have to keep it and get a new small car. I like the new Focus and mpg will factor into what I buy.

I have said this before.

F150 and 250 need to be "blended into one vehicle. There currently is too much overlap. Call it the F200.

This leaves the bottom end open for the Global Ranger. Call it the F100.

The 2012 F 150 SC and CC are both 231.9 inches long according to the dimensions I'm seeing.

F150 styleside with 6.5' tray - 213"

It's not the difference to T6 that concern Ford, it's the overlap with F150, they don't want to

substitute one product for another especially when T6 has less profit attached to it...

But I did reference "comparable" vehicles. Personally, I don't want a regular cab truck. I frequently need to carry more than three people. And I like to have a truck with a nice option package. Neither of those is possible with the regular cab F-150. The regular cab T-6 is nearly the same size as the regular cab F-150.....but the SC/CC F-150 is 21 inches longer than the T-6 Crew Cab. Sure, the T-6 that I'd buy is 90% the size of a comparable F 150, but that 21 inches is significant when you're pulling into a garage. The wheelbase on the T 6 Crew cab is also shorter than the F-150 SC/CC, making it more maneuverable. I realize it may not be profitable to bring the T-6 to the U.S. market at this time and I'm not suggesting they do so. I was just sort of wondering what that vehicle that was 90% the size of the F 150 would look like.

LOL, I just hope Ford follows theoldwizzards suggestion of merging F150 and F250 (F200) and sell T6 in the US as F100,

there's a lot of spin and BS going on atm, with plants closing Ford can't be seen to be going back on its word but I pray

that they do find a way to make space for T6, it's a great truck.

I had the pleasure of driving a new T6 dual cab with I-5 auto, holy cripes, 350 lb ft under the hammer, went like stink...

It's too bad it will "only" wade through 30 inches of standing water....otherwise I'd be tempted to fly over there, buy one, and drive it home!
