I wouldn’t expect the auto manufacturers to change course based on what this administration does, at least as far as CAFE targets go. Unless Congress acts, anything one administration does can be undone by the next, so they pretty much have to assume that current targets would come back if this administration alters them.
Previous discussions on Maverick-based van for the most part assumed ICE or Hybrid powertrains IIRC. Is a BEV variant now also rumored? I thought commercial EV van was to be larger than normal, more like Rivian or BrightDrop in size.
Pro Power Onboard is a real plus, though 6.8L doesn’t make as much sense to me if solely for Super Duty. I suppose 6.8L allows Ford to charge a premium for the 7.3L, but how much cheaper is it actually to manufacture? Buyers may not appreciate pricing strategy. Perhaps an aluminum 6.8L V8 would make sense on lighter-duty vehicles if emissions and fuel-economy regulations are relaxed enough by current administration. GM still uses pushrod V8s successfully in pickups and large SUVs, so maybe not that odd to consider. 😀
I don't know anything about this specific transmission, but adding more cooling capacity to an automatic is never a bad thing. Waaayyyyy different eras and tech, but I added a cooler with a fan on my '78 bronco with a c6 that was getting so hot it was overheating the engine coolant because the coolers were stacked (higher stall converter in trail riding speeds didn't work out so well lol), but it made a huge difference. I know there's not much room in modern vehicles to add more coolers, but if you can find room I don't see how adding another cooler in line wouldn't help, this was a common thing to do at least up until the e4od in half ton and larger trucks when you added more power or load to extend transmission life.
This might be completely wrong but on the 6R and 10R transmissions, ther is a thermostat switch on the cooler outlet circuit,
it stops oil flowing to the cooler until the temperature reached 95C which has been a point of overheat failure over the years.
Might be worth finding out if the 6F and 8F gearboxes have the same sort of cooler thermostat….
Just my opinion but is why his thoughts on running the company need to be tempered by a good and knowledgeable CEO.
The focus should be on the 50% of young American that want to own a vehicle, not the people who don’t want to.
At one point in 2006, F series sales were about 30,000 in a particular month and Ford almost convinced itself that
this was permanent die back of its primary profit earner and that the company should invest in fuel efficient cars.
There again, certain positions were taken that stopped the company going bankrupt but robbed it of quicker recovery.
