That’s today where we don’t have a robust fast charging network and prices are still high. Prices will come down and charging will get better and when it does buyers will want EV pickups the same way they want ICE pickups. Given Ford’s truck heritage and profit profile it would be suicide not to go after EV pickups. But it might not pay off for a decade or more.
Current export market models have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Territory's interior isn't cheap at all.
Ford in China has the capacity to handle production for both domestic and export models. Ford is also positioning China as an export hub alongside Ford Thailand which currently focuses on body-on-frame models. Ford used to export some models from Taiwan back in the day before Ford started exporting from China.
PS: It seems that Ford it is still interested in turning India into an export hub after it put its India-made BEV plans on ice.
I feel like Ford needs to respond. With a GTD R with like 1,000 hp, or some sort of next gen Ford GT, some sort of halo model that really takes the fight to GM here. The c8 seems like it's been a massive win for GM's pocketbook, and it's reputation. The GTD is awesome, but I believe Ford can go even further.
Well on the plus side, the price on Ford GT's seems like it's gradually coming down. For a few years, it felt like you wouldn't see a GT sell for under a million on the used car market.
You're starting to see some of them sell for high 700, low 800k in recent months. If the release of insane mid-engine cars like this results in other used mid-engine high performance cars like the gt becoming more obtainable, you won't see me complaining.
Obviously, Ford has more information than I to be making their decisions, but I don’t have a great feeling about any of this. I live in a truck centric market, and there just does not appear to be significant interest in electric trucks. Not that there aren’t any, but they are a few and far between. This observation is anecdotal, of course, but there is little talk about them and virtually no advertisement for them. It seems like Ford is going to proceed with their move to EVs, regardless of what the market is saying, but they will be doing so at their own peril I suppose.
Yea, ol' Billy Boy has been a proponent of that for the past 20 years
The executive chairman of Ford, Bill Ford Jr., has begun to advocate strongly for a gas tax that creates a price bottom for gasoline. Ford cites the need for “predictability” in fuel pricing and suggests the government send a price signal strong enough to turn people permanently toward buying fuel-efficient cars.
