Then star concept came to my mind as well. But apparently it was like a preview of the Lincoln three row EV that got canceled. Maybe Ford repurposed that design for a next gen aviator.
For the left one - perhaps this is the rumored Lincoln Bronco?
The hood and dash to axle look roughly the same....
For the right one, I wonder if that's related to the Star concept. The rear reminds me of it....
it's definitely longer in the back than Star, though......maybe the Aviator EREV will take a lot of Star design cues?
I'm starting to become skeptical of the new silhouette comment myself. It's occured to me maybe Farley is playing 4D chess. He knows these EVs look pretty normal, but have slightly unconventional proportions. So maybe he's hyping up how radical they'll look so that when people actually see them, it doesn't turn as many people off because they're more conventional than what they were expecting. Or Farley is used to playing it safe and his definition of radical is a lot different than ours lol.
That's a bit self-serving. Like bending over backwards to justify Ford's failure.
C segment is far from collapsing. Toyota has no problem selling Corolla and Prius. Honda has no problem with Civic. Hyundai still moves Elantra and i30. VW Golf is no longer top seller but Skoda Octavia more than makes up the falloff from Golf (not to mention Scala, ID3, A3, Leon, El Born etc).
Also, if customer wants SUVs, then why is Ford killing its 2nd most popular model in Europe (Kuga)? Like which part of that business plan make sense if what he said was true.
I wonder what this is, not the 4 door bronco, the other suv on the right. On one hand, it conveys the sleek, minimalist look I've come to expect for an EV, but it also is giving me strong Lincoln vibes. Whatever that is, I really like it, even if it does look like a range rover lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if they shared front ends like the '97 F-150 and Expy did (or current Ranger and Everest for a more recent example).
The size/segment would be more open to that, vs. the different looks on the full sizers.
Yeah, I'm skeptical of the "new silhouette" comment. Only so many ways to make a truck and have it still be useful....otherwise you end up with cybertruck.
The other wild card here is T3........which based on various patent type images over the years also showed a short hood. Actually.....look at this patent image. The hood in the photo above is longer, but look at the floating roof shape and cutline of the bed........
It's possible some T3 elements made their way to regular F-150 or vice-versa....
It's hard to say because we keep getting conflicting information. One minute the truck is this radical new silhouette that's "really not a pickup" and that "won't look anything like people are expecting" as per Farley. But a maverick looking truck with just a slightly shorter hood is literally what all of us are anticipating. So if it looks like that, it's just a generic, conventional looking truck and all the talk about radical design was hot air.
I'm personally hoping for something more radical, not cyber truck levels, but maybe something a little more sporty and muscular looking that would fit the RWD electric sports truck idea they're trying to sell.
It's pretty nuts that they had a more traditional Explorer EV ready to go and decided to drop it and attempt a spaceship instead.
I wish we could see all the "could've been" products...
Good eye! I think there's merit to what you're saying. So this is either the suv, or maybe Ford moved the models as they were taking different photos? But I find that hard to believe.
Another possibility is maybe the truck and SUV share some design elements like bumpers, hoods, fenders and so on to save on costs. So this could be how the truck and SUV both look for all we know.
I still believe that original truck is just an f-150, it looks like a raptor before the details are sculpted in and refined, like how a clay model first looks when it comes out of the milling machine.
That being said, this was another image shared and does appear to be a new design. Who knows if it's a next gen maverick, CE1, or even t3 with the design looking a bit smaller because it's further away. But it appears to have a shorter hood, decent sized cab, and ok sized bed.
If this is it, I don't know what Farley is smoking by referring to this think as "A new silhouette instead of a traditional looking truck" because even with a slightly shorter hood, it still very much so looks like a conventional truck.
