There is a reason why the “3 row EV” design was published. CE1 truck design is finalized and Ford wants the public to get acclimated to this styling direction. I don’t hate it, but I’d rather see something more radical and similar to the CE1 truck sketches. -
Interesting fact, China is banning all non-mechanical door handles as of 2027, the issue is safety, electric operated door handles make rescues harder in a crash situation.

My point is electronic doors cost more, are less safe and less reliable than a mechanical door. China is actually banning them starting in 2027 due to safety concerns. I think there is a very tiny aero advantage, but it’s so small that you wouldn’t even notice (I read somewhere that it’s like 1-4 miles on a vehicle with 300 mile range). I think the only reason they are used is for looks and to make the vehicle feel more premium, which doesn’t make sense if you are making a low cost EV. I’m also not a fan of only having a center screen. I think the mach e’s set up of a large center screen with the small screen above the steering wheel is much better. I hope this doesn’t mean it’s not going to have buttons either.

Better aero, better looks, lower cost. I don't think the mach-e door handles are bad, I think some customers love to complain. You see it with things like dial shifters as well, where it's just like the easiest thing in the world to understand and use and yet you see people constantly complaining about the dials in their mavericks. Like I used the mach-e door handles the first time zero issues, and got used to the dial in my maverick within a day or two. -
I think the door handles on the mach e are probably the thing I’ve heard most complaints about. I don’t understand the aversion to regular door handles on EVs. For a lower cost product, why not try and save money here?

McLaren head hunted him, they know his work and what he can produce. When you are owned by rich Arabians, the paycheck is not an issue.

Some more info from BORG - None of the design sketches Ford shared are similar to the final design - It'll have the same type of door handles the three row has, described as an evolution of the mach-e handles. - It'll copy the main screen of the model 3 with just one screen in the center of the interior for all the displays like speed. -

Credit to Zesty for this render. I think this actually looks pretty. If they're really going for the cab forward, areo, shorter bed look, this is about as good as it's gonna get imo. -
It was utter denial, Ford brass didn’t want to believe that few if any would buy what they thought was another milestone in Ford’s history. Someone told them the projected figures were going to be worse than Tesla X and I think that’s when Farley knew the jig was up… And this is how Farley gets when he’s on a mission, he puts the blinkers on and just won’t listen until the last moment when everything is about to crash and burn.
-
Another interesting note from BORG: As for reception, I know it was pretty negative internally so I'm baffled how it got so far before they decide, yep, nope, won't sell enough to sustain a whole plant. I was skeptical for a long time and not surprised when it died. I’m kinda surprised it got as far as it did if basically everyone hated it lol
