Retiring at the end of the year, I have a ‘91 Fairmont 5.0 in the shed with fresh engine think RWD V8 that looks like a Taurus…

Your Maverick has far less torque than an EV. FWD ICE is cheaper to manufacture and fits better in smaller vehicles. But it can't handle a lot of torque due to torque steer. The downside to RWD ICE is a driveshaft that takes up passenger space and more components. EVs eliminate all those concerns except torque steer so RWD is a better choice. If KIA chose FWD then there must be some synergy with fwd ICE vehicles otherwise it makes no sense. On a clean sheet dedicated EV platform I can't think of any advantage to FWD.

I was asking a simple question - if there are no advantages to FWD in an EV, why are competitors able to do it, yet Ford chooses not to. You would think that the UEV platform would led itself to that level of flexibility. FWD is also a proven compact package that gives more space. I don't think "more frunk room" is a major concern for Ford or else they would've kept it as "standard" on Mach E. -
Most likely a conscious decision to go RWD for EV's. The Mach-E is a Mustang, which goes hand-in-hand with RWD. Ditto with the F-150 Lightning. FWD EV would be a poor choice for a pickup truck. They know how to do it, but have chosen not to, at least so far.

I ordered my 2020 F250 in mid Oct 2019 and did not receive it until Valentines Day, 2020. All pre-Covid. I think they are back to pre-Covid production. All depends on what you order on the vehicle. Mine was a Supercab, Lariat, Lightening Blue. Godzilla motor. Sweet truck.

But you said ford can't - I say there was no advantage to fwd in an EV. In fact rwd is probably better with no steering and it leaves more frunk room.

from Borg at GMI "Or so it may seem....CarBuzz is reporting that Lincoln told them an announcement is coming very soon. I also heard from Mike Martinez that Ford/Lincoln will have an announcement about a new hybrid this week (which very well might be Corsair since it's a standard Hybrid). So I think the coast might be clear and the announcement last week was to prep for the news of more Chinese imports...now that they have clearance. At least they can say the Chinese imports are temporary until they "Move Production Back". Ford Has A China Problem With Lincoln, And We Have Questions About That The promise to stop importing Lincolns from China still leaves the door open to importing for years, with 2030 plans for more Lincoln US production. carbuzz.com "Today, Lincoln confirms for CarBuzz that the Corsair will be re-introduced in the US, with "more details to share very soon." It is possible that Ford would import the Corsair from China to the US as soon as next year, even after issuing a statement this week that it "will phase out the importation of vehicles from China for the US market?" The statement also said Ford "will grow Lincoln production in the US beginning in 2030." FWIW, Ford still has a 2027 Corsair on schedule so it should be coming by January."
