NickF1011
Ford is really raising the bar with its electronics offerings these days. Bravo. Still though, WTF is wrong with people who can't park a car themselves?

ANTAUS
If someone cant park on their own, they shouldnt be driving....Then again, there is braille in drive-thru tellers, so that should explain it...
Moosetang
I can't even remember the last time I had to parallel, and I don't exactly live in the boonies. But hey, nice to see the feature there for those who DO.
joihan777
The Boomers are going to appreciate this feature. And the boomers have cash.
danup
I've finally gotten parallel parking down pretty well but I can definitely appreciate an automated system. Scratch that: people who are in the car with me when I'm trying to parallel park would definitely appreciate an automated system.
jpd80
That's another man function replaced by a machine, I hope my wife doesn't hear about that!!!

So few people on the road today can actually drive... It's really unfortunate..
Michael Reynolds
Impressive!!! Even if I don't see a purpose behind it, it's nice for once to see Ford vehicles with the technology that they should have. I distinctly recall a couple years ago when Ford and tech did not go hand and hand.
TomServo92
I, for one, don't understand the need for this feature for two reasons: 1. In the 30 years I've been driving, I've had to parallel park maybe three times (and one of those was on the driving test) 2. Parallel parking isn't that hard It was a stupid idea when Lexus added it. I wish Ford had spent the development money on something more useful.
twintornados
I agree that it is an item that ranks up there in the "oddball features" range since I learned to parallel park when I learned to drive a car. But, for the dolts that did not bother to learn yet have gobs of money.....sell on Ford Motor.....
Catalepsy
First, you must not live in a city. In most urban areas, parallel parking is a requirement. I had to squeeze into some pretty tight spots in NYC a few times. Once someone parked so close to me that I had to slightly adjust the position of the car in front of me to get out. Second, you're absolutely right. It isn't hard once you done it a few times. However, I know a lot of old people with flexibility problems that makes it hard for them to turn their heads. Plus you do realize half of the population of drivers are women. As we all know, they are incapable of parking correctly. I, for one, don't understand the need for this feature for two reasons: 1. In the 30 years I've been driving, I've had to parallel park maybe three times (and one of those was on the driving test) 2. Parallel parking isn't that hard It was a stupid idea when Lexus added it. TomServo92
First, you must not live in a city. Big assumption on your part. Actually I do live in a city and the downtown area has parallel parking. But it also has plenty of lot parking. it's not that difficult to avoid having to parallel park if that's what you want. jpd80
Happy to report that I can reverse parallel park RHD and LHD cars with ease. Surely, damage free parking aids like this must eventually lower insurance premiums. Besides, most of the parking sensors are already on the cars, they just work well with EPASS. battyr
Brilliant! To make this work you need 3 things: 1. A computer that is already comes with the naviagions system. 2. Sensors that come with Ford park assist. 3. Electric power steering that Ford is adding to all new cars to save fuel. All they have to do is write the software and add a button. Oh and charge the extra $500.00 for it. Good markup for for a $.50 plastic button. I thought it was dumb to offer it on a Focus, but hell, you don't even need to add a button, just program one on the touch screen of the Nav. system. If someone wants to give you an extra few hundred dollars for a Focus, take it.
battyr
The heart of the car is moving from the engine to the computer. Ford is becoming the leaders is automotive engineering by having the best computers and best software.
Catalepsy
Yeah, it is an assumption on my part. It's that big city mentality setting in I suppose. We have to take whatever spot we see...don't really have the luxury to pick one from the other. It must be nice. Big assumption on your part. battyr
GM is spending big money on the Volt, people may not want to pay price for. They may never make a profit. Ford is developing software that allows them to increase the desirablility and markup of their cars without adding to the manufacturing cost of the cars. I suppose I might have a slightly different opinion of this feature if I didn't have a choice, but I still go back to it's not that hard to parallel park, especially with the tech that's already out there like backup sensors and cameras. As a former computer programmer, I can appreciate the technology but I still don't see the point.
RichardJensen
I can understand the age/mobility issue with parallel parking, but not the alleged difficulty of it. Although I will say that parallel parking on the 'wrong' side of a one-way street is a particularly interesting experience. Sort of like changing the second pair of shoes on drum brakes. RichardJensen
BTW, a massive to Lexus & Toyota. Their system is CAMERA based? You MUST be kidding me. No wonder it's lousy. Here I thought they were using the car's adaptive cruise control & rear parking assist.... CAMERA BASED? ZOMG......
BORG
Ford continues to be the technology leader in Detroit, they never fail to surprise these days.
