ironhorse
Toyota's 129/mo. Corolla leases and 149/mo Camry leases are killing the domestic car sales. The imports are really incentivising vehicles. Ford has very low days supply on 15 150's and our '14 150's doesn't have the same money on the hood as Fiat and GM has.
tzach
Face it, more buyers simply want cargo room and could not care less about 'spirted driving', manual transes, or 'twisties'. So sad, but so true.
Fgts
Also, GM and Fiat are dumping their pickup trucks to get cheapskate, 'I only buy used' buyers, but dumping will cut their profits, and may lead to yet another bailout request. So 100,000 pickup buyers who didn't buy a F150s are "cheapskates"?.
Deanh
I wouldn't say cheapskates...they are just price buyers, nothing more nothing less....however, I wouldn't let that bother anyone, as soon as they have the trucks ( specifically ram ) for 5 or more years and everythings falling apart and paint is peeling ( Rams are notorious ) all it does is make the competition look superior... ironhorse
Deanh...that is true, but you have a customer out of the market for at least 4 years. The '15 truck is still new,and the pent up demand can command the big price, and the low $1000.00 rebate...how long will that last?....those price buyers are a big chunk of the market
Deanh
Ironhorse...considering we have but 4 sitting on our lot , demand isn't the issue.....
ironhorse
Got 2 '15's on the ground. The competing GM dealer has 100 '15's trucks on the ground.
Deanh
@ironhorse...thsu the necessity to incentivize....this is the EXACT opposite of Fords business plan....5 years ago, we were told we would never be overstocked again.....
4d4evr-1
Sure seemed like a good idea at the time - a dedicated (North America at least) hybrid body style like Prius. just got back from a 2K trip to Key West and both Fl coasts. Saw a bunch of C-Max in Fl and had a great time in ours. On some 2 lane roads had the chance to test to passing and the thing sets you back in the seat pretty well. We love ours and thankful Ford built it and we will get another when the 8 year warranty runs out.
4d4evr-1
Yes it did, but I think the MPG adjustment hurt its credibility. Plus, it isn't a Prius. and you could not give me a Prius if we had to drive everyday. We love the high seating position of the C-Max.... akirby
Ford doesn't want cheap buyers because the profit margins are too low. And there will always be someone who wants to undercut your price. Ford would rather cut production and keep ATPs high and incentives low. That way they're not as susceptible to a price war.
Biker16
What's Ford's capacity utilization right now? And what are the subprime portfolios like at GM and Chrysler? I'll just hang up and listen. GM? Chrysler? who fucking cares. WHAT ABOUT TOYOTA????????????????????????? Toyota Closing Gap on Ford for No. 2 Spot in U.S. Auto Market Ford Motor Co. suddenly needs to look over its shoulder as Toyota Motor Corp. is breathing down its neck for the No.2 spot in the U.S. market. Toyota posted a 13% sales gain in February, helped along by strong demand for its small SUVs and Lexus models. Ford, which is in the middle of the launch of its redesigned F-150, reported a 2% decline in the month amid sluggish demand for its passenger cars. Toyota’s gain allowed it to inch past Ford in February, with its 180,467 deliveries 84 vehicles more than Ford. Ford is still ahead of Toyota through two months by about 8,100 vehicles, but that lead is anything but secure. If Toyota’s surge continues to threaten Ford, it won’t be the only potentially major change in the U.S. auto sales pecking order. Through two months, Nissan – long the No.6 auto maker in U.S. sales behind No.5 Honda – has raced in front of Honda. While Toyota is far more profitable than Ford on a global basis, Ford’s ability to hang on as the No.2 U.S. auto maker in terms of sales, has been a morale boost following years of domestic auto makers ceding market share to Japanese rivals. Ford’s ability to keep its grip on the No.2 spot this year will be a focal point for Chief Executive Mark Fields, who took the helm last summer. The F-150 should eventually be a tailwind for Mr. Fields. The aluminum truck arrived in dealers in December, but it takes time to ramp up sales of a complex model like a pickup truck. Rival General Motors Co., in fact, outsold Ford last month with its full-size pickups. Ford has been the leader in the full-size truck segment for years. On a conference call Tuesday, Ford executives said they are confident the F-150 will build momentum once all plants are up and running. Ford’s redesigned Edge SUV is also expected to help the company’s performance this year. General Motors Inc. is the largest automaker in the U.S. BTW GM made more profit than ford in 2014 and Toyota made over twice what Ford made in 2014. Toyota Raises Profit Forecast Again By YOKO KUBOTA Updated Feb. 4, 2015 6:51 a.m. ET1 COMMENTS TOKYO— Toyota Motor Corp. solidified its status as one of the world’s most profitable auto makers Wednesday, raising its full-year forecast to a record high thanks to a weaker yen and strong U.S. sales. The world’s best-selling auto maker said it now expects to post an operating profit of ¥2.7 trillion ($23.0 billion) in the fiscal year ending in March, up 17.8% from a year earlier. It was the second upward revision in two quarters—this one by 8%. Toyota’s full-year figure would rank it ahead of rivals Volkswagen AG , the world’s second-best selling auto maker, and third-ranked General Motors Co. , according to analysts’ forecasts. GM was scheduled to report its fourth-quarter earnings later Wednesday. “We don’t care about rankings, about becoming No. 1 or No. 2,” said Takuo Sasaki, a Toyota managing officer. “We’ve worked to improve our profitability and we’ve cut costs. We are seeing the fruits of these efforts.” To be sure, Toyota’s profits don’t rival those of Apple Inc., which last week reported the biggest quarterly profit by any company in history—one in the same neighborhood as Toyota’s full-year number. Still, it would represent a second consecutive record annual profit for Toyota, underscoring its solid growth after several years beset by recalls, natural disasters and worsening Japan-China ties. Profits in the current year were driven by a decline in the value of the Japanese yen versus the U.S. dollar, which amplifies overseas profits when repatriated to Japan. Toyota ships more of its vehicles from Japan than fellow Japanese rivals Nissan Motor Co. andHonda Motor Co. In the U.S., a sharp decline in fuel prices over the past six months has boosted demand for its sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks.

No they are the most profitable automaker in the world. and if success in business is determined by profit, they and GM are doing better than Ford is right now.

Boring is a subjective term, objectively Ford only makes mainstream products, they are to conservative to build a car like the FR-S, a minivan or dare I say make a compact pickup. GM took a $2.5 billion charge for Recalls in 2014 and they still were more profitable than Ford. If profitability and sales isn't the goal what is? Deanh
Biker, biker, biker....has either GM or Toyota have anything along the lines of an SHO, Explorer Sport, with a twin turbo and AWD, Fiesta ST, Focus ST, RS, upcoming GT, Raptor?...answer nope, Has Toyota got a Corvette or Camaro?..at least GM has something, albeit a total of two...their lineup sucks, I even question their Lexus lineup, although at least they have some excitement. No, the whole world doesn't revolve around numbers and profitability....some do it other ways and DONT have to get bailout money ( IIRC Toyota has had Govt assistance a few times...but hey, they are #1 so who cares right )
