akirby
trust me, he's not wrong If you're expecting big exterior changes just for the sake of changes, sure. But to me the Fusion exterior didn't need much improvement and I'm more interested in the interior and technology improvements.
akirby
yes it's plastic. My bad. It is plastic. It sure looks and feels solid like metal until you check the bottom edge.

MKII
http://www.autoblog.com/2015/11/17/2017-ford-escape-official-photos-video/#slide-3706616 Excellent MCE! It has all the little gripes dealt with overall and lots of goodies. I have one beef, the cup holder is in the wrong place IMHO. I preferred it astern of the gearshift where I can rest my elbow and drink my coffee and flick through my iPod using the steering wheel controls. Tough life I admit. Now, I have to adjust my muscle memory to move the cup around the gearshift. Oh wait, that's not happening anytime soon! I'm not looking at replacing my Escape anytime soon but if I had to, I'd have absolutlely no issue picking this one up. Now, where is the Sport version? Found this image of the Sport Appearance Package on Ford.com site. Looks like a nice package, I would like to see them offer the body coloured lower cladding Edited November 17, 2015 by MKII

bzcat
The black bumpers and trim in the first post is the new "Sports Appearance" package. Available on SE and Titanium. The non-Sports Appearance model will have body color bumpers and chrome accents (on Titanium).

In the United States, SUV sales are expected to exceed 5 million units in 2015 for the first time ever.Small SUVs play an increasingly larger role, and Escape remains one of the most popular. bzcat
New Escape loaded up on tech and 1.5 Ecoboost. This is what a serious mid cycle update looks like. The lack of similar improvements on the Focus remains one of the biggest miss for Ford in recent years. rmc523
Umm.....we haven't seen the Fusion refresh yet. We've seen the front of it anyway. Seems more along the lines of Focus MCE rather than Escape's.....but I also agree that the Fusion looked great already, so less needed to be done to improve it. I still don't like how the sync3 screen is recessed in the dash - makes it hard to touch the screen in the lower portion. I have to agree - I've never liked the center stack, especially with the giant hump on the top just for the CD slot that nobody uses anymore.....I wonder when we'll see CD players exit vehicles? akirby
Get smaller fingers I agree the setup is a pain from personal use. We have a better plan. We're trading it for a 2016 Edge. The seats aren't comfortable for us - especially the manual passenger seat that sits too high (first time I've ever had that problem in a new Ford vehicle) and we miss the added amenities and features. We had an 08 Edge and tried downsizing but we're going back.

Hugh
Not to drag Foci into this but isn't the Focus a year or two older than Escape? Besides, there's no stipulation that the new features can't be released for the next model year?

silvrsvt
If you're expecting big exterior changes just for the sake of changes, sure. But to me the Fusion exterior didn't need much improvement and I'm more interested in the interior and technology improvements. The thing is the fascia/headlights bearly changed (As seen on the Ford Mondeo picture on the Ford investment slide deck and I had a hard time telling them apart and I'm a Ford fan) and from other spy shots I saw recently the rear end is nearly completely carry over outside of the backup lights being repositioned in the lenses. Just because it looks good now, will mean it's going to still look good in another 2-4 years older...it will just looked played out and old. I'm hoping the Sport of ST Fusion will have a more agressive front end of it to help make it different then the rest of the lineup.

jasonj80
I think the margins and ATPs are a lot lower on the Focus, plus the tech goodies weren't ready yet. There is basically no tech/features available on the new 2017 Escape that the Focus doesn't already have, other than new Adaptive Cruise and the system that they are using is old, doesn't include auto-brake, or Stop and Go feature. At this point it is just laughable that Ford still doesn't have a collision mitigation system available on anything other than a 55K+ MKX in the USA. I would assume that Sync Connect will spread to the full model line for the '17 model year. Over all its a nice update, tighten up the front of it, and the back is very Forester but it works. Loaded this one will probably top 40K sticker, the order banks open after the first of the year so these should be on the road in spring.
