silvrsvt
http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2018-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-spy-photos-news I wonder if they'll still make the GT350 under it.
fuzzymoomoo
This thing has been rumored to have been seen around town for a few months now but this is the first confirmation of it I bet it sounds mean!
rmc523
I think they'll still have the GT350. Cater each to different markets.
akirby
FPCs don't like forced induction from what I hear, although it could be a larger displacement coyote. I'll go on record with 725 hp.
sullynd
FPCs don't like forced induction from what I hear, although it could be a larger displacement coyote. I've heard the same re:FPC. If only there were a non-FPC version of the 5.2.
ZanatWork
Fairly thick rumor that it is a TT, upgraded Coyote being evaluated. Given the V8 history with Mustangs, I think this is the way to go.
Stray Kat
Logic would say that a slightly smaller bore 5.0 Coyote might provide an increase in head gasket durability with more meat between the cyls.
30 OTT 6
A twin-turbo 5.0L V8 in the Mustang will be a packaging marvel to behold in a Ford. I doubt it will happen. And the Cobra Jet SEMA car from a few years back that had the turbos behind the front clip will never pass emissions and therefore never see production. I seem to recall reading, somewhere, that the Ford was reworking the 6.2L V8 to fix the cooling problems (which seems to be the reason why it has not fully replaced the 6.8L V10). When I put my fantasy fanboy cap on I see a GT500 (or Mach 1?) with a Gen II 6.2L V8 with 3 or 4 valve VCT heads.

silvrsvt
Will need to buy more CAFE credits from Tesla. Hmm not working out to well for Telsa now http://www.cnbc.com/2016/08/03/elon-musk-is-furious-at-a-small-california-state-agency.html
RichardJensen
Will need to buy more CAFE credits from Tesla. Tesla doesn't sell CAFE credits. They sell ZEV credits that apply to CARB regs (California Air Resources Board). And that refers to a requirement to sell so many zero emissions vehicles in the state, not to overall fleet fuel consumption.

There would be no greater piss off moment to GM than For Ford to front with a 630-650 hp TTV6 GT500 that matches their new ZL1.
rmc523
Do you think it'll have less power than the previous model though?
30 OTT 6
Turbo's in the vee, maybe? https://www.google.com/patents/US8459026
akirby
Do you think it'll have less power than the previous model though? Less top hp but way more torque off the line.......
fuzzymoomoo
More speculation: https://www.yahoo.com/news/ford-next-mustang-shelby-gt500-195932013.html The guy who wrote the article clearly doesn't know much about the launch process though. The mule was created with a GT350 TT build, rather than the TT on the windshield indicating Twin Turbo. He doesn't know what he's talking about there. Stray Kat
I don't understand the business case for this car but damn I love it! Anyhow, turbo's in the "vee" makes a lot of sense on an OHC engine. There is a huge amount of dead space in the valley. The original Coyote V8 had reverse flow cylinder heads. It stands to reason that Ford might want to take advantage of the pluses that come with that configuration. It doesn't matter the peak hp number to me as much as the instant throttle response an engine like this could deliver. Bring it Ford! 98GMLS
I still think the power train will be a 3.5 TT. Can't see then only using the HO version just for the Ford GT and Raptor. But hope I'm wrong and its a 5.0 or 5.2 TT. Or is Ford working on a smaller V8, maybe 3.2 to 4.0 Litre, with TT?
akirby
I think it would have to be a 4.0TT to get the numbers they want. You can get 700 hp out of a supercharged 5.0 pretty easily.

A 3.0L V6 (from the Lincoln) scaled up to a V8 is 4.0L, and using a similar tune gives you 533 HP. Turn the wick up a bit and 700+ should be pretty easy. Hmmm...... I read somewhere that .5L / cylinder is considered optimal now.

I would think it would be more like that 5.2 crate engine posted earlier.

Well, it obviously wouldn't go into the GT500 only. Think Navigator and Super Duty. Personally, I would love to see something like that show up in the Super Duty. Numbers around 475/550 would be about perfect I believe.

I still don't see it happening, not when the entire industry is moving away from brand new V-8s in general.
