PREMiERdrum
FINALLY... Art and Science is dead. The design isn't groundbreaking, but the elements play well together. It looks sharp, handsome, and quite understated. It will be interesting to see how the general public perceives it compared to the more avant garde direction that market's other players are heading in. My biggest concern is that the cues that make this work (horizontal theme, narrow light openings, and back-forward weighting of the trim and brightwork) will *not* translate well to the existing lineup in MCE's. I hope that they wait for new generations to spread the look across the lineup. Edited August 19, 2016 by PREMiERdrum
sullynd
FINALLY... Art and Science is dead. Agreed. Reminds me a lot of the last two Buick concepts, which isn't a bad thing. With those I kept thinking "too bad that's not a Cadillac".
PREMiERdrum
(goes to GMI to read the natvies opinions on Escala) (sees all the side-by-sides of Escala and the A7) (realizes he likes the new Cadillac concept because it's an American copy of an Audi)
sullynd
I don't mind that. To some extent I've always felt the Malibu's rear end reminds me of the A7. I wish more cars did. Every time I see a car from the 80s I'm reminded how crazy tall our vehicles have gotten. A G3 Firebird for instance looks like an exotic (proportionally) by today's standards.
silvrsvt
Actually looks pretty nice, though the grill reminds me alot of the Sport style Ford grill like whats found on the SHO or flipped upside down on the ST products.
akirby
Still don't like the hockey stick trim on the front grille, but otherwise this is leaps and bounds better than the current stuff. You have to wonder how much of that will carry over to production though. And "Escala"? Really?
atomcat68
I sure hope their cars will look like that now!

RichardJensen
"Escala"? Really? Looking for 3/4 of the sales of the Escalade
BORG
Very nice - distinctive, progressive and definitely premium. I certainly think it's much less derivative than Lincoln's more dated motif. Edited August 19, 2016 by BORG
akirby
Don't miss Lincoln's new concept car the "Continent"..........

akirby
"Hey did you see the new Cadillac Escala?" "You mean the Escalade?" "No, the Escala." "I thought it was Escalade. Did they change the name?" "No it's a new concept sedan." "I had an Escalade once. Nice SUV."
sullynd
Well, in fairness, concept names are just that. They do often do not make it to production. Should it make it to production I t'll will probably be the CT8 or something like that, and we'll rightfully disparage it for that name then. rmc523
As a whole, I actually like it. My only complaint is the third window just before the d-pillar. I wish the belt line would have more gradually transitioned to the hockey stick kick up (or at least the kick up have been more rounded at the bottom "corner"). The abrupt uptick doesn't match the rest of the otherwise smooth surfacing.....every other element in the car where various "corners" (say the corners of the grille or even the blades at the bottom of the lower grille and front door) have a smoother/softer transition/corner. Otherwise I do like it, and I liked the Elmiraj before that, but the CT6 didn't see much of the Elmiraj make the transition. Also look at the grille made up of many crests....I wonder where they got that idea. --- I 100% agree PD, it's about time for Art & Science to go. And that it won't translate to the existing lineup. bzcat
It's a pretty good concept overall. My first impression is quite positive. But this is like the 4th Cadillac concept car in the last few years when the brand is mainly dependent on SUV sales. It seems like the tail wagging the dog on yet another concept car when they should really address the future design direction of Escalade, which has regressed stylistically speaking, from having its own unique exterior of last gen to a simple rebadge of Chevy Tahoe of current gen.
BORG
I'm mostly just looking at the fascia, the rest is not that informative. I'm not so sure about the taillights. I am glad they finally got rid of the Mercury MC4 Concept design language with the headlights, but they've managed to connect to existing caddy design with the lower fascia. The fascia overall is the first Caddy fascia I've actually ever liked and the first time American designers actually understand Euro luxury design without being a cheap and obvious knock-off. Still, it's hardly earth-shattering. But it does make the Lincoln look that much more dated and unimaginative. The funny thing is that it actually picks up on some previous Lincoln design cues in the hood with the hood cutline following the grille, I've always loved that design and then Lincoln got rid of it. Glad to see Caddy putting it to good use. Edited August 19, 2016 by BORG
grbeck
It's attractive, and I get the sense that this one is much more "production ready" than past concepts. But there's nothing really ground-breaking here, and Cadillac should really be more concerned about shoring up its crossover line-up and the Escalade. BORG
Caddy definitely needed a new design direction however and it's good to finally see their commitment to getting there, and they definitely put a big damper on Continental which they needed to do. The Continental suddenly looks very elderly. Edited August 19, 2016 by BORG
