They think if they receive massive pay increases, it'll better their position in life. They don't realize they've essentially costed themselves their careers long term. Mark my words, we're gonna see a shift to brands making even more cars outside the U.S. and shuttering U.S. plants. That's not even taking into account pay hikes rarely improve someone's life. Ford is just gonna raise the prices of their products considerably, which will have a thousand of tiny effects on the economy, and drive up the cost of living. Had many discussions with VO Engineering regarding "on the bubble" status. Quite a few questioned that Chicago was open and Wixom, in much better condition, was closed. At the time thought it was related to the value of the land. Closed plants were marketable as real estate. Chicago is in an area dotted with long closed factories. To give an idea of how quickly things can change, Ford was braced for expansion of the labor strike that began Sept. 15 to include a walkout Tuesday at the Dearborn Truck Plant at the Rouge, the sources told the Free Press. That didn't happen. A key issue in the talks is reportedly a wage increase over the life of the contract. While the Detroit Three have offered 23%, first proposed by Ford, the UAW is said to want to push to 25% in addition to other benefits related to compensation and time off. A Ford deal would include cost-of-living pay increases that could lift the total pay raises above 30%, according to confidential sources credited by the Associated Press. First would come a UAW announcement of a tentative agreement. Any proposed contract must go to members for informational review, and then a vote to ratify or reject the deal. Strike ends today to keep pressure on GM and Stellantis. Everyone on strike now is considered to be on TLO until return to work process is worked out.
