I have a toy of that gen Capri somewhere in the closet under my stairs.  Has a little slider that makes the roof go up and down on it lol.

Also don't forget about the 2nd gen Capri which was essentially a rebadged Foxbody Mustang with a bubble glass hatch as an option.

It doesn't look that bad, it just doesn't seem right to call it a Capri.

They did get the look of the rearmost pillar though. Would probably look better without the extra 5+ inches of gloss black on the bottom (where the battery pack is).

I can tell you right now without that contrasting plastic, it would look a lot less sporty/more fat.

Another case of its a 5-door coupe/sedan but the battery pack makes it half a foot taller than a regular sedan so let's call it an SUV. Extra ground clearance isn't even a thing anymore with SUVs, well, at least if it's electric.

I want to say 88 was the last year but might be earlier...

had to look it up 86 was the last year

Yeah I figured when the Mustang went to what was called Frog style headlights in the era was the end of the Capri because it had 4 sealed beam lights.

I think if the final design looked closer to this actual sketch, people would like it more. The details aren't bad, it actually looks really cool in this sketch. What makes it less appealing is just how stubby/fat the finished product is. You can tell the hood on the final design is a lot shorter, and the thing sits a lot higher.

I'd actually retry this idea with Ford's upcoming CE1 platform. Keep these lines, but push the dash to axle ratio back 4-6 inches, lower the roof/beltline by a couple of inches, and flair the wheel arches out even more to make the finished car look more like this sporty sketch.

If Ford came out with an electric replacement for the escape globally and it actually looked as dramatic as this sketch, it would be quite successful imo.

Man, that is not good 😆. Why would you buy that thing over the explorer ev? I’m curious to see what Europeans reactions are to this. It kinda looks like a stubby, bloated, polestar 2.

I too have thought Polestar 2 from the get-go.

I am European. I live in Spain. The problem with this car and the EV Explorer is the price. 50000€ is a lot of money for a mainstream medium size SUV. With that money you can buy a compact luxury Mercedes-Benz or BMW.
The other problem is the EV charge infrastructure, that actually is a disaster.

I don’t see a good future for Ford Europe.

Damn the interior is exactly the same as the Explorer EV-they didn't even do anything different with the seat covers.

Lazy on their part - unless they're basically saying this is the "coupe" version of Explorer EV.

Here's a better photo of the rear too...

If the Explorer EV and Capri are represented what Ford was getting out of VW, I'm glad they are more or less not extending that relationship. They are both ok to underwhelming products. Hopefully Ford's small EV program pushes these out of the market sooner then later.

Agreed, they have the right idea, just the wrong platform and design execution.

Spain also has a substantially less average family wage than the rest of western Europe, so higher prices cars sell better in the rest of western Europe better automatically. The Dacia Sandero was the best selling model last month...

Not typical of what you see in Germany, UK, etc.

The lower 58-inch tall Polestar 2 has better proportions. More Capri-like than the tall high-waisted Capri EV which shares panels like the doors with the Explorer EV.

Maybe that is right for higher price cars from premium brands, not Ford . Even luxury brands are struggling selling EVs.  Audi reduced the Belgium EV plant production from 120000 to 40000 annually, and will closed it in the near future because the EV sales are bad, very bad.

Is a bad timing for Ford to present an expensive EV for Europe right now. Maybe the soon to be revealed electric Puma , if it will be priced accordingly with the brand and market, will be a better proposition.
