To be fair, the RAM and GM trucks can be optioned up to high prices rather quickly as well.
They only give the perception of low cost until you start wanting a well appointed vehicle,
it just doesn’t seem as painful when the monthly payments are stretched out to 72 or 84 months..
The strangest part was that Ford spent funds developing a 2.0 diesel version for Europe and ROW markets
but by the time it arrived in Australia, it had already failed in Europe. Makes you wonder if those resources
would have been better spent on a gasoline hybrid….you are correct though, C2 was a much better
platform for developing the multitude of FWD/AWD vehicles required by Ford.
indeed, approximately 300-400 lbs savings in light weighting over CD4 which was beefed up for transverse V6
Sad considering how quickly V6 option seem to come and go thanks to I-4 Ecoboost efficiency.
It was an option. That chart doesn't show the LED headlights either. They either came with the LED headlights or the ultimate package. Either way all my lights are LED and I have both those options and the trailering package. I have flashing modules controlling all the lights since they are all LED.
Edge is/was a great product that if they had redesigned it and made it a hybrid it would still be selling well. If they bring it back in a new body that’s not that Chinese version good for Louisville or whatever plant gets it. How many other automakers cancelled there two row crossovers that were selling well?? You tell me. I get it they import the Nautilus, at first I’m like even the Nautilus they’re canning it makes no sense.
It would’ve been nice if they did that in the first place and not can us til 2026. I was baffled as to why Ford never offered a hybrid Edge/Nautilus all these years before those Chinese versions. Ford changes plans so much that that’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Edge was on cd4 (which was an expensive platform) and did not offer a hybrid or anything unique other than the ST version.
Nautilus has shown that a well executed high tech 2 row can be a passion product and generate good margins. And it’s on C2 which has to be cheaper to produce and offers a ready built hybrid powertrain.
Honestly, if Ford could get away with making and selling even less vehicles, they would.
I wonder if Edge L is in US as part of evaluation for another region, ie not North America
I can definitely see this being the case. GM and Ram seem to have better option packages that allow people to build desirable trucks at a (relatively speaking for the full-size market) decent price. Ford's option packages cause the MSRP to rise quickly.
