That is a pretty rich take
From Wikipedia:
If the market is being satisfied by product that doesn't need any real updates done to it, why are you going to change it? I'm pretty sure it is very profitable for Ford and they don't have much competition.
Wondering if anyone can speak to whether the Lux Leather package is worth it on the Platinum. From what I can gather, it replaces the ActiveX with real leather. Is this really a noticeable difference for most people? Are there any other benefits, like the seat heating/cooling works better? Any difference in the seat shape or massage functions? I don't care whatsoever about the door panel inserts. If this is simply switching the seating material, I think it's a $1,700 I'd rather avoid. If there's something I'm missing, I'd love to know! Thanks.
If you ask the guys over at 6g, they are not competition because the roof doesn’t come off 🙄. Jokes aside, I would have probably bought an everest over my bronco if it was cheaper. Toyota also doesn’t seem to mind having 2 off-road SUVs in their line up that are roughly the same size.
Not sure everyone agrees. 😀
Transit is a best seller, so Ford deserves credit for that, but failed to meet the needs of many customers in US; so much so that they had to extend E-Series Cutaway production beyond its original scheduled discontinuation after 2014 model year. I will admit not liking Transit very much for multiple reasons so my opinion is definitely biased, but I’m not the only one that thinks Ford could have done better. I think Transit sells well because GM Express/Savana are dinosaurs, Sprinter are expensive and with fewer dealers, and ProMaster is FWD which limits some buyers. Not saying Transit is bad, just that it could have been much better.
Would love to see the cab, especially the interior, updated to the standards of the 2023+ trucks. I mean, the interior of these trucks dates back to 2008 I believe. Rather old and outdated.
Territory would be a decent replacement for Escape except of course it is made in China which makes it impossible.
It's just another example of disjointed product development strategy for Ford.
Mexico's car market is increasingly aligned with China and Chinese imports. The Big 3 US companies now all sell more Chinese imported cars and SUVs in Mexico than they do Mexico/US/Canada assembled cars and SUVs. Chinese imports accounted for about 20% of new vehicle sales in Mexico last year and will probably go near or maybe above 30% this year. The only reason it is not much higher in terms of % is the large amount of pickup trucks sold in Mexico which is still largely sourced locally or imported from the US. But if you extrapolate the data, it means basically Chinese imports has made significant in roads on all the non-pickup truck segments in Mexico.
This has significant geopolitical consequences for Mexico, US, and a bunch of other countries. Mexico is the 5th largest car producing country but its domestic market is increasing dominated by cars imported from China. Think about that for a second and ponder it... It's the equivalent of the US exporting all its corn elsewhere and yet importing substantial amount of corn consumed domestically.
The US 3 as well as VW and Nissan are more so than ever using Mexico to export to the US and EU. They kind of products they build in Mexico are really out of step with what the local market demands (which the Chinese are filling the void quickly).
Provided Nissan stays financially viable, the Leaf may do well. Every review I’ve seen thus far has been positive for the most part, though they have all been of the $40k upper trim. At that price it will have to compete with Tesla 3 and Y, not to mention other manufacturers like Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, etc.
IMO the real test will be S+ starting at $30k, where competition is much less. Chevy will have the Bolt in that price range but it’s smaller and an older design. And when Nissan introduce the base S trim which could be closer to $25k than $30k, we’ll see how buyers react given there’s no competition at that price. Next year should be very interesting for more affordable EVs. If you happen to see review of Leaf S+ please share. I’ll do same.
