I believe Alan Clark who's one of the head engineers on the skunkworks said in an interview that the skunkworks design approach could work for larger vehicles in the future, but it wasn't the goal for the moment. My guess is the EREV f-150 is a tactical retreat. Backing away from the large, expensive EVs that currently aren't selling in favor of something better suited to current demand. After a generation or two, if they're able to get the costs of a large EV down, and demand is more resilient, I see them revisiting the idea of a pure BEV f-150 at that time. -
That bodes well for former Ford (and Apple, and Tesla) big shot Doug Field. He won't have any trouble convincing his new employer, whoever it is, to give him some major moolah.

I just accepted delivery of my new 2026 Ranger on 4/20/2026 and it has cheered me up given all the talk about the Ranger demise. JP (@jpd80), thanks to all the Aussies for designing/engineering a fantastic truck for me.

That doesn't mean there won't be a larger BEV pickup at some point.

IMHO a vehicle that weighs 8000-10000 pounds is not a practical personal transport vehicle.

Farley has indicated there will not be a NG BEV F 150

Compared to pure BEV, EREV also adds cost, complexity, and maintenance requirements of a secondary power generation source with a secondary fueling system - something customers like me and many other current F-150 Lightning owners don't need or want. Hopefully the big shots at Ford will offer both EREV and pure BEV versions of the next F-150 Lightning.

Looks like VW should do some more collaborations with Xpeng. ID.Unyx 09 certainly looks more distinctive than the anonymous blob ID.7:

If there's anything that Ford has a good handle on, it's how to properly market pickup trucks.

It makes zero sense to have the Ranger, the CE1 EV (which will apparently be tweener between the Ranger and Maverick), whatever this ICE/Hybrid truck is and the Maverick all competing for the same buyer. Not to mention having a bespoke platform that is apparently only going to be sold in the NA market vs the Ranger, which is world wide. I sure hope Ford has a good handle on how to properly market all of them.
