From what I understand, the camo padding is designed to do just what has here...obscure any defining lines and blur any hints to future design direction until Ford wants to get more "clandestine" input....you will see an "un-padded" 2010 Taurus running around in 2-5 months with the "peanut shaped" paint camo job insteead of the padded coverings.

My question is simply this.....will it remain front drive and will it spawn a rear drive variant to replace Crown Victoria? I believe that D3 cannot be all things to all designs. This replacement should have it's own design using the very best that Ford can muster from within her empire or fine chassis designers.

Going from a FWD Platform to a RWD platform requires changes to 3 things, 1. the chassis, 2. the body, 3. other components.

Likely every single part of the chassiss would have to be changed. Engine orientation changed, different transmission, different suspension. If you are looking at 4wd and Awd options, it is possible to share suspension pieces. The engineers would likely want to redesign the suspension. If they have to, then they should design a new suspension that will work with both FWD and RWD with only a few small components that can be changed to make it best suited for its use.

If the vehicle is going to be tall and not oriented to high performance, a CUV/SUV not a Sports Car, then the body structure can be carried over with only a few changes. If you want a Sports Car, you will need to enlarge the transmission tunnel and move the front wheels forward to improve the weight distribution. You would likely need an all new body. That being said, it the D3 is a very flexible platform. It could be a good place to start. I would like to see Ford design a D4 platform, with a Cab Forward version for FWD and Wheel Forward version for RWD. Two versions that can share most body pieces and can be built in the same plant.

The Other component from firewall back should be shared. But only if they are smart.

Will the 2010 Taurus be a global world car or just another piece of isolated one market gas guzzling junk that even cash strapped American's wont be able to afford to fill up or want to own as fuel prices continue to sky rocket will just 4,500 sales a month and not be worth bothering with, why have the Fusion, Mondeo and Taurus that all have the same shape why not just stick with one model the most fuel efficient of the three generic shaped designs and make it Ford global world car as they all look offer the same sort of thing?

Reminds me of my friends Felicia. I asked her, "Why are you spending all this money (petting zoo, bounce house) on your 3 year olds birthday, she won't even remember it?"

She answered, "Well, it's really to impress all the other rich residents of my community". Considering she lives in a newly built suburban community, "Felicia, look around, you don't live in a rich community, the only thing your neighborhood is rich on, is debt".

So it's not that americans will be cash strapped...they just didn't really have it...they WILL be credit strapped.

I believe that if someone will look for an overall good product, space taking into account, they will look at the Taurus, and most probably keep it much longer than they would have previously. In other words....Pick a car that will suit ALL your needs, LONG term. And I believe the next Taurus COULD deliver on that fact. Space, safety, efficiency and longetivity. Its a vehicle that you can grow WITH.

A product like a Fusion/Mondeo, becomes more of a product to "start with" for most families, but outgrow at a certain point.

Wow............. a 103 word sentence.

Kinda like Marcel Proust. No, a lot like Marvel Proust.

Could be worse though. Imagine the poor schmuck who had to set all the type for the 25-volume, "Collected Works of Joseph Stalin". Really. Great leather binding; red, of course, with socialist gold embossing. :)

I love those spy shots. Apparently the 2010 Taurus will have a roof and four doors. I think.

Will the wheels and steering wheel be round? Gotta say this is exciting stuff l can see this Taurus is going to be a big hit no wonder Alan Mulally was reduced to tears l can see why now.

New interior pics of the new Taurus

Left Lane News

Is that the trunk release button on the passenger side (under the vent) of the center stack?

Take a look at a blown-up view of the third picture, the one where you can see the driver's hand on the shifter. Notice there is a leather boot around the shift arm. While that's a HUGE step up in quality over other Ford interiors, typically you use a leather boot when you need front-back AND left-right movement. Look at the width of the opening on the shift gate, the opening that leather boot is covering. While it is clearly not square enough of an opening to be a manual transmission, it is way wider than it needs to be for a regular automatic floor-mounted shifter. Finally, look at the bottom of the shift gate, on the left. Does the bottom of this shift gate have notches on the left and right? Is is possible that this is a tap-shift or manumatic automatic?
