Alan Mulally's Crusade to save Ford

1) Mulally pays taxes on that perk. It's taxable income (however, feel free to consult Tom Daschle's tax attorney for a different perspective).

 

2) Maybe Mulally is overpaid, but maybe pioneer is overpaid too.

 

IMO, it's all academic.

 

Pioneer wouldn't take a job elsewhere without a comparable pay package and neither would Mulally.

50 posts to the tax issue. I wonder if that's a record.

 

Personally, I don't care what he makes. Should he pay his own way to see the family? Your commercial flights are cheaper there then here. It's all perspective I guess.

Pioneer, you are wrong about this............. just admit it.

 

Alan lives in Detroit. Ask him where his home is. I will guarantee you, that he will say it is in Seattle. Living in Detroit, during the week, is just a convenience. That does not mean it is his home.

 

My husband was looking at a job, before he got his current one, that he would have had to rent in the Valley, to make it work. If he had done that, his home would have still been in Payson.

 

Thus, Ford is flying him in to work. Thus, they pay for it.

 

Do you really think that anyone "wants" to MOVE to Detroit, on purpose???

 

Oh, Japanese CEO's get many perks, that American CEO's can't even dream about. You never see them listed in their annual compansation.............. but they are there, none the less. It is one of the advantages to being a high member of the "collective."

You want to assume Alan's family is covered under the Ford insurance plan? I bet it is, and it's a lot lot lot better than an hourly employee.

 

Mark Fields use to jet home every weekend too, hummm they took that 'perk' away from him a few years ago, when there was an uproar over it. I bet he has it back now, and how long has he been employed? he had to make a plane wait once for his barber too.

 

As for Alan's family insurance, how about this one. For a blue collar employee, IF your wife 'does not live' under the same roof as you. SHE is NOT covered. I'm not complaining about what the big wigs get, the free cars, the free houses the free everything else. But when you keep cutting the little guys, and don't show it across the board for everyone then it becomes a glaring issue. Alan puts his pants on one leg at a time, he's no savior. He's also the highest paid exec. Ford has ever had. There hasn't been enough belt-tightening in the glass house as far as I'm concerned.

Mullaly is a hired gun, nothing more, nothing less. We can pay him or someone else will. If he's saving the company, and at this point things are looking up from the companies point of view, then he's worth the money. Ford Jr wasn't taking a salary as I recall, and look where that lead us, the brink of disaster and the hiring of a mercenary like Mullaly. He has no vested interest in the survival of Ford Motor, he's being paid to do a job, and it appears he's one of the best. If you want to pay less money, I think Rick Wagoner is looking for a job right now. Then people would finally have something tangible to bitch about.......

Athletes don't pay to fly to and from games because that is where their job is on that day.

 

Alan is paid to fly back and forth from Seattle because that is where his family is.

 

Big difference.

Pentastar Aviation is owned by Edsel Ford II. Family visits can be chartered. Is that a perk?

 

 

No. It is a convenient coincidence. If Pentastar did not charge him for the flights then it could get tricky from a tax perspective.

HAHA! I find it so typical of Union workers saying "why does he get more, I work too!" Remember Mulally is saving one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world, not driving a forklift or putting on lug nuts. He is compensated because he can save the company. Thats what he wants.......

 

For those of you that say well, "why doesn't he give it back"? or "If I made 5 million then I would retire"......that is exactly the difference! He has whats known as "drive" and "motivation" to make that money. Just because you feel 5 million is acceptable doesn't mean everyone "feels" ok with that.

What was a commentary on a person that IMO is the best person for the job in terms of saving Ford, has been hijacked by a RedWing solcialist that frankly does not have a clue about running a business. You may feel you are pawn, but that is your own limitation. Hang in there RedWing I am sure Obama will take care of you, as you are surely owed something eh?

It's just a glorified version of fly in / fly where he probably commutes on the weekends or his family

go visit him once in a while. Anyone who does a lot of commute flying will attest that the novelty

wears off quickly and knowing Mulally, he's probably hard at work on board the jet to and from.

Seems somebody like Mulally had to turn the Ford corporate around quick before it was too late.

We now know where Ford would have ended up listening to that former brains trust.

 

The Dearborn morons tried to turn the Falcon into a football too but FoA bucked and saved its car.

 

I liked that quote too.

I'm trying to figure out why the "I don't get what he gets," are still quoting the $39 million??? Is that new math??? You know, like the average UAW worker makes $75 an hour???

 

Bottom line, he is saving all of your ass's from the govment, and BK. There are very few people on this planet that would have been able to accomplish what he has, in the time he has.

 

He deserves more than this. Stop bitching.

Yeah, and IIRC, those stock options were only available/accessable at a certain stock price (which I don't remember).

Hopefully then that's an excellent price, because it makes him work his ass off to get the company profitable where the market sees it so, and he can reap his rewards for doing what he was hired to do.

I think the current situations at GM, Chrysler, and, hell, even Toyota show just how much Mulally has accomplished in the last few years.

I, for one, would have been heavily critical of the rapid expansion and abandonment of passenger cars.

The glimmer of hope for me back then was the 1st gen Focus, but they dumbed that way down in 2005, and again in 2008.

Don't get me started on what they did to the Taurus back then...

Jag/Land Rover was dead weight. It was always dead weight. That has been my position since the accusition.

 

Yes, they were selling plenty of Explorers... but success in one area is not reason to abandon others.

This is not difficult.

 

Nasser was a bonehead, making mostly bonehead decisions.

 

I think Volvo has potential, and I'm certain Ford has gained plenty from them since they bought the brand.

If they need cash, though, they should be next to go.

It was around then And I did comment on it. I slammed the decision and Nasser from the day the news was announced. My self and several others knew this was disaster in the making. Mind you the few detractors were flamed pretty good by the loyally blind.

 

Mullaly is a different kind of man. He is man substance and action not bull shit & flash like Nasser.

Nasser was only concerned with short term stock prices and not the long term survivability of the company.
