Favorite/Least Favorite Car You've Owned

Recommended Posts

I did. Bought it from my godfather's estate when he passed away.

Man, that front end was long. Can't count the number of cars I dinged with it in various parking lots.

Bad brakes, balding tires, died while coming to a stop (would lose power steering and braking), smelled like mildew. Overall poor mechanical shape. Not a good car for a new driver, but it was FREEDOM!

My favorite was an '89 Bronco II. I got in all kinds of trouble with it in college. Lots of fun.

My least favorite is probably the '03 Protege5 I'm driving now. I inherited it from my wife when she got a Taurus X. The Protege handles well and would be tolerable if it had a standard, but I can't wait to get rid of it.

Owned:

1969 Chevy Camarao RS/SS 327cid

1980 Ford F150 Rcab XLT 4.9L 4x4 SB

1985 Ford Ranger Rcab XLT 2.8L 4x4 LB

1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R 2.0L

1999 Ford Ranger Scab XLT 3.0L 4x4 Flarside SB

1999 Ford Explorer Limited 5.0L AWD

2002 Ford F150 Scab Lariat FX4 5.4L 4x4 Flareside SB

2006 Ford F150 Screw XLT 5.4L 4x4 SB (5.5')

Don't have a best, as all the 150's and Rangers were wonderful trucks. Not one major issue with any of them other than normal upkeep. Beat each one up off-road, except the '06, and they have always come back for more.

Worst: Would have to be the Explorer. One problem after another. Basically it was a money pit!

These are just the vehicles I've owned. If we were to include the wifes, her '98 Cavalier would rank right up there with the Explorer as the worst owned. It was almost as big of a money pit as the Explorer.

Favorite is the '64 1/2 Mustang convertible (My Avatar)

Least favorite '98 Explorer Eddie Bauer. I wanted the Wedgewood Blue one I test drove and ended up with a Wild Strawberry Red when the Blue one was sold while I was driving it. It wasn't a bad truck, I just was never happy with the Red one. Close second was my '82 Escort EXP. I spent a small fortune on Michelin TRX tires during my college years.

my ex's cars were all Bimmers...every single one had brake issues ( maybe her driving ) and numerous electrical glitches....the Z3 was a doozie...blew its PLASTIC/ NYLON radiator all over the 405 to 5 transition IN THE FAST LANE! along comes Dean in his early 70's ( ? not quite sure what year it was ) VW Bug convertible to the rescue after adjusting the valves....LOL! German Engineering !

I've owned:

1978 VW Rabbit (Diesel)

1986 Ford Taurus L (3.0 Vulcan)

1992 Mercury Sable

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

2005 Mazda MPV

2008 Ford Taurus SEL

Least favorite: the Rabbit was economical (60+ MPG on the road) and fun to drive, but the seats were so uncomfortable, the car was hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and the diesel was a pain in the a** in the winter.

I liked all the other cars (though I didn't like the failed transmission in the Grand Caravan at 72000 miles). Probably a tie between the MPV and the '08 Taurus for the favorite.

1962 Ford Galaxie 500 wtih 390 Cubic inch V8 and 4 barrel with 3 speed Cruisomatic

1968 Ford Corina GT with 4 speed manual

1971 Mercury Capri with 4 speed manual and V6 engine

1975 Mercury Capri with 4 speed manual and V6 engine

1979 Mercury Grand Marquis

1983 Ford Mustang Convertible with 5.0 V8 and 5 speed manual

1985 Bronco ll with V6 and 4 speed automatic and tow package and 4WD

1997 Taurus SE with Vulcan V6

1999 Taurus SE with DOHC 24 valve V6

2002 Taurus SES Sport with DOHC 24 valve V6

I don't have a favorite as I liked them all in their own way. The Bronco ll was the most multi functional and used it for so much and the Mustang was the fastest. The Capri's were the sportiest. Have a lot of great memories with the Cortina GT. The 390 Cubic inch Ford with the 4 barrel was a lot of fun to open up. The Tauruses were and are nice, trouble free vehicles that do a lot well.

Cars I've owned and/or spent serious driving time in:

1975 Lincoln MarkIV

1979 Granada

1988 Thunderbird LX 3.8

1990 Aerostar

1994 Thunderbird

1997 Aerostar

1997 F-250

1997 Thunderbird Sport #1

1997 Thunderbird Sport #2

1997 Thunderbird LX

1998 Windstar

1998 Mountaineer

2002 Taurus

2005 Freestyle

2006 Freestyle

Others I have driven enough to feel qualified to judge:

1983 Fairmont Futura

1988 Econoline 150 Converison

1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with Handicapable steering & pedal conversion

1989 Oldsmobile 88 2-door Brougham

1989 Chevy Cavalier Wagon

1993 Chevy Cavalier

1992 Pontiac Sunbird

2001 Mustang GT

2001 Dodge Caravan

2003 Dodge Caravan

Favorite would have to be my 1997 T-bird (the green one). I have done so many fun/stupid/incredible things with that car and it has gleefully begged for more and just refuses to die, rock-solid reliable. The IRS and handling was a joy especially when I had Z-rated rubber.

Honorable mention goes to the Aerostars for being rolling land barges. Not really fun to drive per se in the traditional sense, but they could take a TON of abuse. They too are virtually indestuctible... it's amazing how many of these things are still out there, rusted-out rockers and all.

Worst goes to the Oldsmobiles... handled like mush and just felt all wrong. The Handicapper conversion might have been fun - try driving with two levers for a challenge! - but the irony is it just made an already miserable heap a rolling death trap.

The 98 Mountaineer would be close behind. I hated the way it handled, the way it looked, the way it drove, and the way it fell apart. No redeeming value whatsoever!

I also hated the Cavalier and Sunbird, and by extension any 4-cylinder GM of the era. Who at GM had the brilliant idea to make their 4-banger sound like a Fisher-Price bubble mower?

The 83 Fairmont was an absolute POS, but it ran for 20 years. Although come to think of it, my 88 T-bird had a laundry list of problems too but it was the first car I owned outright so it gets a pass ;)

My cars were all awesome vehicles. But I'll never forget the day I let go of my last Mustang... sad, sad day.

Favorite truck: My 01 Silverado. Finest automatic transmission ever put into a vehicle.

Favorite car: My 03 Cobra of course. Put a smile on my face 24/7

Favorite SUV: 92 Explorer 4x4. Saved my a** in the snow every winter.

Wish I had the room/money to buy them all back.

To be just 24... I've owned, ahem, a lot of cars:

'96 Contour GL

'00 Focus ZTS Sedan

'00 Expedition Eddie Bauer

'01 Focus ZX3

'03 Tribute

'06 Explorer

(Not counting the wife's '04 Mustang, '06 Mustang, and '08 Mustang)

My least favorite is probably the ZTS sedan... nothing wrong with the car, save for a few recalls, but I really grew to hate the color combo. Rainforest Green with light ligh gray and walnut interior. I love the first gen Focus interior, but it looked outright stupid with fake wood.

My favorite, actually, is the ZX3. I loved the handling, loved the pep, and loved the Jackpot Gold paint!

Then, there's the one that got away. Just before I got the ZX3 I had test driven an '02 Cougar V6 Premium in French Blue. When we got hit by the drunk while we were in the Expy, I had to get something quick. The deal on the ZX3 worked out quicker... I try not to think about "what might have been."

*LOL @ Bubble Mower GM engines* I'm a child of the 80s/90s and part of growing up in my GM dominant community was hearing those HORRIBLE GM gargling engines puttering along the roads, GAH! MORONS! GM and Chrysler have some noisy power plants.

The MKS will be replacing my MKZ, and it will be AWD in Tuxedo Black. The MKS dwarfs my MKX in the garage. Besides the Aviator, this will be the largest vehicle I've ever owned. It honestly doesn't feel that big, at least compared to the Taurus/Sable (to me they feel like massive fishbowls, they are all glass and they remind me of a school bus or minivan ;).

My least favorite car was an early 80's Nissan Sentra: bought it as a winter rat....car was such a piece of crap, half way through winter, I dumped it and put my "good" car back on the road.

My most favorite is a 1976 Ford Gran Torino in ginger glow (brown)...nice car until I wrapped it around a tree and telephone pole many many moons ago when I was a teenager that thought I was "bullet proof"....what a wake up call that was....my old man was so pissed at me.....didn't know until years later, mom told me he saw my car on the way to the hospital to give me a ride home that he thought I was dead....the car was that bad.

Fav Car:

MY '88 EXP 5-speed. Great gas milage, only 2 seats so I didn't have to play taxi, never got stuck in the Buffalo snow, and everyone always asked "what is that? a mustang?" Also my first paint job. Only things to go wrong in 100k were 3 starters. Paid for the first one and the rest were replaced one lifetime warranty. But I had to drain the coolant everytime bacuase of a poorly placed line.

Fav Truck:

My 97' F150 4x4. Sit gas mileage (but gas was cheap back then), useful for all the toys, and it just felt cool. My first financed vehicle, bought it within 3 weeks of starting my first job out of college. Not the wisest use of money, but I loved every minute of it. Sold it after 6 years and 150k moslty trouble free miles.

Least Favorite:

My '83 Cavalier. Drank more oil than gas. but it got me through high school.

My fav car is my 06 Mustang GT or 86 Escort GT which was my first car

My least fav is my 02 SVT Focus, was a good looking car that was fun as hell to drive, but it was horrible POS mechicaically...I had to replace the intake runner control multiple times, the intake itself went on it, tying the car up for a couple weeks at the dealership due to parts shortages, the Clutch went at 50K, ABS sensor went when the clutch got replaced, had a leaky clutch resovoure, broke the lumbar knob (didn't have a stop on the early ones and twist it too much and pop!) and I'm sure there are bunch of other stuff I'm missing that went wrong with it...all I remember was ordering my Mustang GT in Dec 05 and when the car was in I asked for it that night...I cleared out the check engine light on the car before turning it in and got my $5500 I wanted for it!

Favorite had to be a 1970 Torino 2 door HT (modified 302, modified C4, modified suspension). Good looking, fast (the 1 to 2 shift over 65 was brutal), drove like it was on rails, and got up to 25 mpg when you took it easy.

Least favorite is a toss up between an 82 Impala, 4.2 V8, 3 speed auto; and an 83 Buick Regal

Best

1966 RWD Ford Cortina Mk1 1600 GT - Done most of my courting with Mrs Moulds massive boot/trunk.

1969 RWD Ford Capri Mk1 1600 GT - Just was so special at time, simple DIY acres of space in engine bay.

1970 RWD Ford Escort 1.1 L Mk1 - Trusty crossflow never let me down 65,000 back and forwards on trips to Filton Bristol.

1972 RWD Ford Capri 3.0 GXL - Bought it in 1991 will never part with it gotta be one of the best left.

1973 RWD Ford Escort 1.3 Deluxe - Bought it in 1979 the wife says it has to go the daughter says no she is 29.

1985 RWD Ford Capri 2.8i - Fun car missed it a lot when l sold it, gearbox was a bit notchy not as good as older Fords.

1987 RWD Ford Capri 280 Turbo Technics - Superb best Ford l ever owned wish l never sold it at the time but needed cash for new house

Worst

1959 FWD Mini 850 - My first car, it was a money pit l spent more time under it fixing it than driving it was a NIGHTMARE.

1981 FWD Mini 1000 - Nothing but trouble again, sold in 1984 after crash which was last time l ever had an accident.

1984 FWD Fiat Uno - Hated the shoe-horned sardine tin engine bay, dull boring bland styling everybody makes one mistake buy.

1990 FWD VW Golf GTI - Hated it soon realized VW sell cars based on marketing hype & bullshit pined for my 280 Brooklands Capri.

1992 FWD VW Golf GL - Don't ask me why l bought another one but l soon sold it after just a few years.

Gotta say l really would like to buy a new Ford car l could pay cash for anything Ford sells in the UK at the moment, but they only offer FWD ONLY and the rather bland dull boring styling that leaves a lot to be desired, so l shall just waste my money on holidays instead and retire early sell the house worth which is worth about $1.2 million at the moment and downsize move to a cheaper area. Gotta say l would buy a new Mustang if Ford ever sold it Europe but l may end up buying my first ever new pick-up the Ranger in the next couple of years only because Fords cars have become so boring with no RWD option.

In rough order of purchase/lease:

1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible

1973 Chevrolet Vega

1979 Crossle 35f

1964 Chevrolet Corvette 327/365HP

1984 Volkswagen GTI

1995 Ford Contour V6 MT

1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435HP (currently owned)

1996 Ford Contour V6 MT

1997 Ford Taurus

1998 Ford Taurus

1999 Ford Taurus

2000 Ford Taurus

2001 Ford Focus

2003 Ford Focus

2004 Ford Focus

2005 Mazda 6i MT (currently owned and daily driver)

1995 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (currently owned)

My least favorite car has to be the last Taurus I owned. It was a bucket of bolts - harsh driving and poor quality - hard to believe considering the prior Tauri were very good. The second worst car was the Vega - you could literally watch the thing rust - but it was a surprisingly good handling car for the time. I never had any problems with the engine because it had steel sleeves in the block.

The Corvettes I own are toys and the Crossle was a Formula Ford which I campaigned in the early/mid 1980s.

Among my most favorite daily driving cars include the VW GTI. That car was so tossable around corners and even with only 90HP could hang with muscle cars (and blow them away around the corners). I loved my 95 Contour - I felt like it could do it all - 27MPG (with the 2.5L V6 no less), stout acceleration, competant handling, and a terrific interior. I also really like my current Mazda 6 - far better from both a handling and FE perspective than any of its Ford cousins.

Had the Wedgewood Blue on my '99 Explorer & '99 Ranger. Great color. People always asked if it was black, blue or purple, depending on the light reflection.

The 98 Mountaineer would be close behind. I hated the way it handled, the way it looked, the way it drove, and the way it fell apart. No redeeming value whatsoever!

Didn't mind the handling, drive or looks of my '99 Explorer, but yeah those 2nd Gen Explorers/Mountaineers loved to fall apart. My fathers '96 Explorer did the same. Hit 75K miles and everything goes wrong with them.

Favor car is my current 03 Mustang Mach 1. This thing is gobs of fun and really gets my blood flowing. Worst car I ever owned was probably a 72 Ford Maverick with a 250 cid straight six. Engine ran great but I only gave 300 bucks for it and it was beat up pretty bad. It was not reliable at all but that was mostly due to being wore slap out when I got it. I did have a 72 LTD (BOAT) with a 400 cid engine and it was a hell of a good car and I put a lot of miles on that sucker.

Cars owned:

1976 Delta 88 Royale Crown Landau

1981 Cutlass Supreme

1987 Cougar XR7

1996 Mustang GT 'vert

2001 Mustang GT 'vert

2002 Thunderbird

Favorite was the '96 Mustang. The color, the styling, trouble-free everything - couldn't ask for more

Love/Hate - the Thunderbird. 6 years later total strangers still approach me personally or yell when they drive by what a great ride I have. B) Which makes it easier to overlook all the mechanical problems I have had with it. But I will not be getting rid of him anytime soon - just still too much fun to drive.
