Ford has been getting better about controlling leaks the past couple years...I'm almost starting to wonder if we'll see anything "new"

Ford is doing an amazing job. The new Focus will be introduced in just a couple weeks, and not even one picture of it and I have not seen one test mule out there on the streets. Amazing. Vaporware so far. I sure hope they do a five door hatch as that would probably be the next vehicle I buy. Big enough to feel like a real vehicle, assembled in MI, and really good fuel efficiency so that you survive big spikes in gas prices. A 3 door hatch just wouldn't fit my needs. And I want something a little more functional than 4 dr. sedan.

here's a couple of guesses:

Focus.

Explorer

CMax

a C segment CUV (Kuga?)

a CD segment CUV (next gen Escape?)

a potential Police Interceptor concept

and I'm going on a limb, but something SVT that isnt a Mustang.

SVT has generally been shown at Chicago. Wish they'd move it to the Motor City....what does Chicago represent??? Can't think of anything performance car related...

My guess is the Mustang power plants, Focus, Edge/MKX MCE and possibly the power plant replacements in the F-150. I thought Explorer was going to be shown in Chicago.

Ford usually does at least one concept vehicle that may or may not be built, but at least shows design themes coming up. Maybe we will see a smaller F-150 concept so Ford can see how show goers react to it.

Chicago is a large metro area of 8-9 million people. Also, the city is thriving with a real downtown and not decaying. Detroit needs to grow up, diversify, and move on from the 'good old days' of WWII arms production and Big 3 having 90% market share. The UAW should retrain laid off workers to get technology jobs.

So, Chicago is a much more viable and affluent car market.

Wonder if/when/where they'll show a Crew Cab Raptor.

I don't see Focus and Explorer unveiled at the same show, they'd rob too much press from each other.

perhaps the Fusion with a buttoned suspension that has been running around and doing amazing lap times ( with the SHO drivetrain )

The Focus goes on sale late this year - I doubt they would hold it until LA.

agree they're not going to hold it for next LAIAS :(

but

from what I've read (LINK),

the nextgen Focus won't go on sale until the beginning of 2011cy as a 2012my.

If that's no longer true. . . :hyper:

...New MKX at LA?

nope

found a production schedule for next year

the MKX & Edge order bank opens 1/18/10 and Job1 is 5/10/10

Great news! I was just guessing that since Lincoln has been showing their stuff at LA recently... but the 2007 MKX was unveilled at Detroit alongside the 2007 Edge, so perhaps we'll see them both at NAIAS?

Ford has confirmed the new Focus for Detroit. Many stories about it here:http://news.google.com/news/search?aq=f&pz=1&cf=all&ned=us&hl=en&q=2010+ford+focus+detroit

What doesn't make sense is that there's no spy photos yet, which makes me believe full testing is not yet underway. Plus they have their hands full selling the old Focus and getting the Fiesta launched. Maybe it'll just be a "concept" Focus.

Well, remember Mulally's view on concepts - they should have production intent of some sort...

What about NY? Wasn't Lincoln showing some of it's new vehicles there a few years ago as well?

Maybe they were just really good at hiding the Focus?

After watching a J Mays interview from another thread, he said that the new Focus would be coming to market mid-2010, so I would definitely think we'll have to see something Focus-related at one of the upcoming shows.

I haven't had a chance to watch the interviews yet (@ Library)

but I found a build schedule for next year

and the current 2010my Focus has a last job date of 7/2/10

and the 2011my has a Job 1 date of 7/12/10

so that sounds like there WILL be a continuation ...for a while

however

the last thing I heard directly from a Ford rep last June was that the nextgen Focus program was ahead of schedule

imho

Ford HAD BEEN thinking of going to the nextgen mid-year but pushed it back for 'business reasons' -- they DO have a Lot of other models intro'ing during 2010cy

forgot to say [broken record]

I wish the Mercury C557 would be shown at THIS NAIAS & fast-tracked as much as possible

ideally intro'ing THIS Coming Summer - so Merc could have a 6 month running start on the 2012my Focus

*sigh* [/broken record]
