630land
Who predicted gas so cheap by now, in 2010, when MK3 unveiled? Ex poster "*16" expected Focus to be #1 selling car, thinking we'd have EU fuel prices "permanently". VW, BMW, and Benz are adding more trucks, far from the "Euro driving" image. Be glad there are still Ford cars for sale, at all. How's the new Dodge Dart and 200 selling? Edited April 4, 2018 by 630land
bzcat
Probably RS, ST and Titaniums. No reason Titanium will come from Germany. Probably just ST and RS since they have different drivetrain. Or perhaps Ford will try to sell diesel Focus from Germany. Who knows. Also possible... Ford will import the sedan from China and Active from Germany. But all bets could be off if the Orange one slaps import tariff on Chinese cars. I'm calling it Orange Chicken Tax... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-03/tariffs-seek-to-end-chinese-car-imports-before-they-really-start Edited April 4, 2018 by bzcat
jpd80
Bigger and lighter at the same time......but will it be 25% dearer?
akirby
No reason Titanium will come from Germany. Ford already said they would import premium trims from Europe. They did not limit it to RS and ST models. Do they even make Titanium’s in China?
2b2
Ford already said they would import premium trims from Europe. They did not limit it to RS and ST models. Do they even make Titanium’s in China? was discussing China-Names from a recent Escort article: "The original Chinese has special names for all Ford Nameplates. I.e. the Focus is "Fox", the EcoSport is "bird wing". The same with the Fusion and the Escape..."
MKII
Bigger and lighter at the same time......but will it be 25% dearer? Price list I saw for one of the EU markets, Trend to ST-Line, the ST-Line is priced higher than Titanium for some weird reason now, and it showed increases from 500-1,500 euro. And that was just for the powertrains available in this soft launch being the 1.0EB and 1.5 diesel. The 1.5EB info won't happen until September with the offical launch. Fgts
Maybe the tariffs situation would make em rethink this "Made in China" BS.

Do they even make Titanium’s in China? They do but the trim is called Flagship on the sedan. The hatch has a Sport trim which is almost identical to the sedan Flagship spec, same price but the Sport includes sporty bits like suspension and appearance things, both with the 1.5 EB 180hp and automatic. The way they are spec'd in comparison to the EU fully optioned Titanium is identical. The ST variant is an import. Do they even make Titanium’s in China? I don't think Ford ever said premium trim. They just said some Focus models will still come from Germany. Most of the Ford sold in China are high trim versions, including Titanium. Ford doesn't have low budget brand like Chevy, Kia, or Skoda in China that mops up the low end of the market. It's one of the problem it is having growing volumes. Edited April 5, 2018 by bzcat
jasonj80
I don't think Ford ever said premium trim. They just said some Focus models will still come from Germany. Hatchbacks come from Germany and Sedans came from China. Hatchback would continue with IRS where the sedan would have a cheaper rear setup. Hatchbacks already cost more and don't have the cheapest trim. Edited April 5, 2018 by jasonj80
akirby
No, they specifically said something like higher trim or higher priced versions will come from Germany. I can’t find the specific quote but we discussed it quite extensively.
akirby
Looking back you may be right about it being RS and ST only since theyre only made in Germany. For some reason I thought titaniums would be coming from Europe. Edited April 5, 2018 by akirby

For some reason I thought titaniums would be coming from Europe. That was also over 15 months ago. As seen with Ford recently lot has changed from then. All they said at that time was higher trims would come from Europe. It has been speculation as to what "higher trim" means.
bzcat
We know soon enough. I'm guessing it will break down like this: Germany LHD+RHD - EU, Middle East, North Africa, North America Sedan Wagon Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost / 1.5 EcoBlue / 2.0 Ecoboost / 2.3 Ecoboost + 48V hybrid (probably with 1.0 and 1.5 Ecoboost) China LHD - China, North America Sedan Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost Thailand RHD - Asia Pacific, India, Southern Africa Sedan Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost / 1.5 EcoBlue Taiwan LHD - Asia Pacific Sedan Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost / 1.5 EcoBlue Argentina LHD - South America Sedan Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost / 2.0 DI ethanol Russia LHD - Russia, Central Asia Sedan Hatchback Active 1.0 Ecoboost / 1.5 Ecoboost If I'm right, that means we will get regular sedan/hatch/Active from China, and hybrids, ST, and RS from Germany.
MKII
Russia will not get the MK4, and I understand Argentina assembly has been told they will not be building the MK4. I received confirmation that the reveal will happen in London UK at 4pm, which would be 10am EST. When I receive the live stream link I will post it.
MKII
BTW, this is what Ford's press release stated "Production begins in the second half of 2019, with models coming from the company’s existing Focus plants globally. Most new North American Focus models initially will come from China, with additional variants coming from Europe later." https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2017/06/20/ford-invests-in-ky-plant-to-build-new-expedition-navigator.html In a business sense the cost of Focus assembly in the Saarlouis Germany plant is a hell of a lot more expensive than MAP or Shanghai, so I doubt anything less than the performance models and (ACTIVE pending MSRP) would not be cost efficient. If what Ford says is true that USA doesn't make money on the normal Foci trims. Edited April 6, 2018 by MKII

atomcat68
We will find out on April 10th, if they drop the hatchback in USA, I'll get another brand. I would thing they'd make the hatchback look more CUVish.
Jqa1824
I highly doubt theyd drop the hatchback. I see tons of them and they must account for s large minority of sales.
Moosetang
I highly doubt theyd drop the hatchback. I see tons of them and they must account for s large minority of sales. Yeah not only Focus but hatches in general seem to be doing better as time marches on. Would seem an odd decision to pinch that particular penny these days.
ice-capades
Ford Dealers aren't concerned right now with whether the next generation Focus is available with a hatchback model but concerned with dealing with the matter of selling all the 2018 Focus vehicles being stockpiled. SoonerLS
I highly doubt theyd drop the hatchback. I see tons of them and they must account for s large minority of sales. I'd bet that most of that comes from the hatchbacks looking better than the sedans in the Focus and Fiesta lines. IMHO, it's not even close; I'd take a Focus hatch over a Focus sedan every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Jqa1824
See Im the opposite. I LOVED the 3/5dr 1st gen Focus but Im pretty meh on the 3rd gen 5dr and much prefer the sedan. But I think its true that 5drs make up at least 1/3 of Focus sales.
