UAW President Shawn Fain under investigation by federal watchdog, court filing reveals

Recommended Posts

Sounds like Fain may have some "issues" within his organization, and aside from any of those, it seems to me this guy has intentions that go beyond the specifics of a good contract for the UAW members.

Β

His recent comments about calling for a "national strike" when the current contract expires, smacks to me of the rhetoric usedΒ  by labor "leaders" in much of the EU over the years.Β  The danger I see in that, is suddenly, labor issues get blurred with social issues.Β  And when that happens, it is very easy for the competitive issues faced by the domestic auto industry with its huge investment costs, get blurred with industry and businesses that have no such costs that bind the employer to keeping his workforce here.Β Β

Β

It is bad enoughΒ  -my observation, right or wrong-that some very basic auto industry positions with minimal skill/effort requirements earn the same as those performing tasks that require greater skills and or physical requirements.

But Fain's desire to put all labor in the same pool would only lead to a diminished competitive position for American industry in general.

Β

It also boils down to the labor pool is also shrinking-Boomers are just about out of the labor market, Gen X is getting older and they are a small cohort,Β Millennials are the largest group but are rapidly approaching middle age, and Generation Z is only slightly larger then Gen X and about 4 million smaller then the Millennials.Β

Β

Shortages in the labor market are going to drive strikes (because it will be harder to replace workers to a point), but should be curious how this all shakes out with the UAW and what the actual tipping point was-was it their actions or the people inside the organization.Β

Sounds like this could be brewing into an episode of the TV show American Greed. Have you ever watched it? I go from gut wrenching to hysterical laughter watching this show. There is no middle ground. You just won't believe what some of these politicians, people portraying themselves as doctors, financial advisors, bank executives, art dealers, and guys exuding millions of pills out of a machine in their cellar are doing to greedy and naive investors, retirees, people who are ill, and even astute millionaires!!!!Β  Stacy Keach narrates and his jabs and delivery are funny and impeccable.

But, do you know him personally....or, are you basing it on articles?

Maybe he’s basing it on everything he’s said and done publicly.

Exactly, it's not like I've lived with the man and know all the tiny details about his life, but I have seen how he conducts himself publicly, and it's not flattering in the slightest.Β

No offense, but were you one of the people that was defending him, and the UAW back when they were making outrageous demands? I'm not anti-union for the most part, but I am anti-greed and stupidity. He's the kind of guy to keep demanding more and more, and then wonder why all these companies are sending jobs overseas. He just doesn't seem like a smart or decent guy.Β

I won’t pile on here but just say that actions have consequence and if the UAW think that

stone walling an investigation lead by the court appointed watchdog is a smart thing

then get ready for a raft of even heavier regulation.

Β

If it can be shown that the UAW leadership don’t follow their own rules, then there could be

a speedy replacement of the people at the top…..

My point exactly, you are basing it on what you've seen in the media and we all know, media can get pretty biased. I am not in any way defending him as he is a grown man and can defend himself. All I am saying is, you don't really know the person, just the media presentation.

It’s not just media presentation. He’s been the most vocal UAW president I can remember in my lifetime

What he has said and done publicly is enough for ME to label him a scumbag. Β I don’t care what he does privately.

I recall @ice-capades posted an article shortly before the contract vote outlining Fain's ties to Socialist movers and shakers. In it, he was shown in accompanying photos with them. It was as alarming as it was enlightening.

You can label anything you want, it makes no difference

Β

Socialist creeps always piss me off....the irony is, here in NY State, the Dems and their "progressive liberals" have left the union members in the dust and the GOP endears themselves to the union members.

But, based on the kinds of things he says, not surprising.Β

According to an article in yesterday's WSJ,Β  the federal watchdog appointed to monitor UAW activities is probing a situation in which Fain made some attempts to take action that would have benefited his girlfriend anΒ  her sister. One of the specifics is that Fain sacked a VP for failing to follow his direction to take actions that would have benefited the ladies in question.

Of course, innocent until proven guilty.

Β

Can't imagine with a fed agent imbedded in the organization he would have the balls to do that but I guess he thinks he is bullet proof.Β  Or the fed is clueless?
