EV products are still growning...the Mach E has seen a 25% YTY increase and the Lightning is at 39%

Exactly, EV sales are still growing. That's something worth noting with all the detractors saying EVs won't succeed long term. They just aren't growing as fast as originally projected, but growth is growth. Just wait until Ford's affordable EVs get here.

I just posted the sales figures on Mact garage FB group.  Everyone there swears that EVs are dead and nobody is buying them.

I'll believe Ford's "affordable" EVs are such when we see them... depending on what's defined as "affordable" when they finally come to market! A lot of talk but delay after delay. As for Ford's "Skunkworks"... it's been 2 years now and there's no sign of any impact. Sure, it takes time to implement major changes, but there's no sign of anything changing yet. I hope for Ford's sake that the project has a positive impact, but Ford's history isn't encouraging in such regards.

Man, it takes 3-5 years at least to develop a new series of cars. As for believing it when we see it, we just saw it my dude. The puma EV starts at 29k British pounds, and that's not even based on this new affordable EV platform. I expect prices of vehicles based on that to be even cheaper.

It's ridiculous. EVs definitely appeal to a certain crowd, in particular people who live in urban areas who drive short distances who want reliable, easy to own cars. EVs are literally the perfect use case for that. The demand is out there, it's just taking awhile from the product to meet those demands and expectations.

Was MAP shut down last year?  Look at 2023 Bronco and Ranger sales.

Weren't we at the tail end of the strike too?

Ranger sales bottomed out to 0 at one point late last year.  We're finally seeing the new model show up.

I always figured EV sales would grow, but not at the huge gains they predicted.

---

I'll throw up my charts soon.

I may have to do one comparing Ranger and Maverick sales and seeing how they affect each other...

Strike lasted from 15 September to October 31st. I think that the Ranger was done at that point because they where tooling up for the new model and that didn't really hit the lots till May or so of this year.

Ranger was finished at the end of June. It was Bronco only for most of the rest of the year

With the technology available today... 3-5 years to develop a new vehicle is just an excuse.

I mean, you still have to develop things man. That usually requires years of testing physical prototypes. I can see a future perhaps where Ford or other brands develop a really versatile, capable platform that can underpin almost everything and leaving the platform unchanged while shortening the time between changing body styles. But I can't see the days of getting a new car where everything is new every few years. That just doesn't give brands enough time to test things.

That was something Jim Hackett tried to change. TBD if he actually accomplished that, we haven’t seen anything truly new since Maverick was launched.

There are days where I wish the maverick had a more conventional development process, speaking as a maverick hybrid owner lol. Don't get me wrong, the cord fundamentals of the maverick seem to be pretty durable. But things like the 12v and CV axle problems likely would have been discovered in testing had the maverick been developed for another year or two.

They spent most of the first two years figuring out how (and if) to build cheap EVs.  They were designing tools and processes and parts not complete vehicles.  I’d say they e only been working on the actual vehicles for 6-12 months.

I'm amused at the Nautilus sales... It's not Lincoln's entry model, but rather the one above it, made in China, that's the best seller this year.  Guess many do not care or know it's made in China... the irony...

Most don’t care and the new panorama dash and first time available hybrid is driving sales.

Yea, that makes sense. Still hoping to see at least one complete vehicle comin' from the skunkworks in 2025. The Ford EV lineup for the U.S. in 2024 is pretty much the same as it was in 2022 when I bought an F-150 Lightning. Competitors haven't been standin' still
