I suspect that upgraded-vehicle schedules may be influenced by next generation of HEV, PHEV and possibly EREV powertrains. Just a guess based on what we have seen in other markets.
They did have CD4 there at one point for Fusion. BUT. As has long been discussed, Flat Rock can't produce anything taller than a sedan profile. So it won't be as cheap as just putting the tools in. They'll have to redo the plant to accommodate taller vehicles.
Excellent point showing that if there was considerable demand for a Slate-like truck, other than it being electric, that manufacturers could offer a similar-size ICE truck for near $20k. The Trax is similar in size and it would seem a pickup based on it would cost no more than the passenger version. Granted, Slate has some coolness factor for now but that won’t last. Just shows price parity between BEV and ICE has yet to be achieved.
I wonder what kind of investment it would take to add C2 at Flat Rock? Even if Ford does eventually build a 4 door Mustang there will be plenty of excess capacity.
Huh, interesting. In the software development world, we use "Kanban boards" to track bugs/work items/etc. I never knew the term came from JIT manufacturer. Makes sense since the agile process of software development focuses on JIT development. Learn something new everyday...I'm taking the rest of the day off now! 😄
Not surprising; and makes one wonder how the extremely slow electric commercial van sales will affect similar vehicles, including those still in development. I’ve questioned how much longer E-Transit will be manufactured if sales keep declining. Difficult to imagine Ford isn’t losing money on them, so why bother? At some point you have to throw in the towel.
Wow, and there was a brand new RV that was just released to be built on the BD platform. Sucks they spent all that money on development to have the vehicle pulled out from under them...literally.
Yup, with how they've arranged their plants, unfortunately this is the only plan that makes sense right now until/unless they come up with something better. The brand would not do well chopping out 1/4 of its lineup/sales.
Aside from product continuance, if there's a positive about it, at least it means that we'll (hopefully) get more consistent and thorough updates since they've had the Chinese models on a more regimented schedule in which they change a lot more, vs. our half-assed "add a chrome strip and 1/2" to the screen" refreshes.
Well sounds like it'd be a different powertrain regardless for a 2027 model.
Agreed - Maverick is the only product we've seen with that fast-track approach, and it makes no sense.
Also agree regarding hybrids/PHEVs......I'd guess at this point, hybrids won't come to Bronco/Ranger until a refresh at this point.
