I can’t wait to get rid of our explorer. I’ve had two of the current gen and they both have had a ton of issues. My current issue is a power folding mirror that likes to fold completely forward instead of going to the normal position. Hopefully the refreshed model is better.
Doesn't change the long standing labor issues at that plant. I'm not blaming the workers per se I'm blaming the union for protecting them and allowing it to continue. Management also shares some blame.
That coupled with a dealer that seemed more like they were just "shotgunning" the repairs....replaced the inner tie rods, then the rack twice before checking the struts for issues meant the car was tied up for a month.....they gave me a loaner but their service department was not inspiring.
Chicago Assembly Plant and UAW ain't the issue here. The culprits are the big shots at Ford who have been beating the shit out of suppliers over the past 5 years.
Hold on a sec...where is the source of the parts I just listed - I don't wish to blindly blame the UAW for parts that were sub-par the got delivered to the plant. I am sure the struts and axle shafts are built elsewhere....
The CD6 chassis is first rate - the issue is the sometimes "sub-par" build out quality of ancillary parts....had rattling struts on my 2023 Timberline right out of the gate and a year later, clicking back axle shafts. Both replaced under warranty but, I decided to rid myself of it and am now enjoying a 2025 Maverick Lariat hybrid.
Here is an "out with the old - in with the new" picture I took when I was getting the Maverick. I don't necessarily blame the Explorer directly, but the dolts that worked on it at the Litha Ford dealership just seemed like they were guessing at what was actually wrong with the car....needless to say, I did not buy the Maverick from them...chose a locally owned dealership in the township nearby.
