I respectfully disagree on clarity. I believe the statement was purposely worded to be vague. Doesn’t mean the guy isn’t a jerk, but that’s a different issue. I try to remain objective as much as possible and leave emotions out of decisions and reasoning.
Thats changing the subject. I didn’t say or even imply Lightning isn’t great, but facts speak for themselves. Sales are way lower than originally expected and likely lower after tax credits ended. And I agree that Lightning would be a great value at $40k but doubt that’s profitable and thus not sustainable. I would not blame Ford and other manufacturers if they stopped building vehicles that people don’t want to pay enough to make them profitable. If Ford ended Lightning it may be a good thing in advance of new lower-cost mid-size BEV truck. That could help with future demand and also reduce internal competition. Not saying Ford has ended Lightning, just that it would not surprise me if they did. Having said that, I think Ford will likely keep building them as long as they can claim top sales even if they lose money on most of them. We should know a lot more in a few days when October data is out.
Definitely agree that it'll be watered down a lot for production. That's why I was saying above, let's see a production version first before saying Toyota has a home run design wise.
I kinda like it but I think its going to be watered down quite a bit and won't translate as well to a production model.
Looking at the current model and the concept, they aren't all that far apart, it looks like Toyota broke out a straight edge for the styling on the concept
They are using a lot of black to hide things-like the C pillar and making the green house look different towards the rear view mirrors
Well, it's initially targeted at only the Japanese market, where Toyota obviously has a stronger foothold, so it makes some sense there. I'd agree that ROW, it'd be a tougher sell.
Well, with how cars tend to endlessly grow, it's possible the new one will be bigger.
Perhaps that's their goal with a longer shape - to improve aero? Especially if they're going with a multi-powertrain approach (i.e. EVs involved).
We’ve seen the new inline 4-cylinder 1.5L engine that is more compact than Toyota’s 1.5L 3-cylinder, but what stands out to me is how low the front end seems to be, unless entire car is much larger than previous Corolla. Hard to tell scale from a picture but that new engine must not be very tall.
I like front end appearing to be much more aerodynamic; whether it is or not. Corolla needs better aerodynamic efficiency given its highway fuel economy isn’t better than larger Camry. The concept’s front looks better than Prius to me. With 1.5L new engine and improved efficiency 60 MPG may be a possibility. 👍
Meanwhile Kia completely ignores full size trucks, SUVs and commercial trucks and vans.
i know people don’t like hearing this but corporate budgets are a zero sum game. If you allocate funding and resources to one area another has to get cut. Right now F series and Ford Pro along with CE1 are the priorities.
