  3. Yet it set a record for retail sales last quarter. Somebody thinks they’re worth it.

  4. TobyTime explained it. I was thinking 2 different vehicles at those prices. There are a LOT of people who would pay $43K because they think it’s a better deal even though it’s not. Same reason supermarkets can’t sell tuna at $1/can but make it 3 for $5 and they fly off the shelves. Ive heard people say they won’t pay MSRP for a vehicle or they won’t buy without big rebates for the same reason. Perceived value instead of absolute value. But Toby seems to just be complaining about the lease prices compared to previous models. Lack of rebates and no lease subsidies are becoming common on newer Ford’s. That might change given the current economic situation.

  5. You don’t have to work for Ford - just listen to Hackett. They’re no longer interested in volume with little to no profit. That means some vehicles will no longer be bargains relatively speaking. If they can sell enough at higher prices they’ll continue. If it doesn’t work they’ll lower the prices. It’s all classic supply and demand.

  7. Ford will have to make it work with the HD transmission... and get it CARB and EPA certified. Emission is easier to pass for GVWR over 8,500 lbs but still cost money. The real pay off is if they can manage to fit it into E-series with the right transmission. A diesel E-series will print money like no other.

  8. The governor in the state of Michigan orders all unessential business to close and the employees to stay at home until April 13th and the first thing Ford Motor Co does is try to get a exemption to have us come in to work. All of the dealerships are closing for 3 weeks, everyone is out of work and they say to stay 6’ apart and they think that we should be building trucks? Are you f***ing kidding me? Are we trying to stop the spred or prolong it? It’s about time the people that run this company get their head out of their ass and do the right thing.

  9. Ford was already on board. GM was trying to play games initially but are on board now. We’re seeing the benefit of strong corporations, no way the government could do all this on their own.

  11. I understand the new one is a 2.5 L. I was responding to the comment above saying the 2.0L was underpowered. I have one in my CMAX and don't think it is underpowered. The total combined hp of the 2.0L is 188hp and the standard hybrid 2.5L is 200 HP. A modest increase.

  12. They need to shock people into reality and stop trivalising this, it's going to get much worse before it gets better, the people wanting to go back to work just don't understand the full impact. If our doctors and nurses become infected because of daily exposure with substandard cloth masks then it's clear that there will be less people to take care of and treat the sick. The reason we're seeing Italian footage is to prepare Americans for what's coming, by the experts' calls, Italy is the USA in three weeks time

  13. Well said TobyTime sir. Quality and feature set for 2020 Explorer is horribly lacking for the prices Ford's asking (before rebates and other price discounts). Motor Trend in its SUV of the Year 2020 competition said this. And you are correct, Ford does have a glut of Explorers and other vehicles. Last month Ford had the highest "days inventory" number of any automaker in the U.S. at over 90.
    1 point
  14. HRG, I think I understand what he's asking. He's trying to make the point that I only care about rebates rather than actual price. So in his scenario he thinks I would be ok paying $3,000 more for a vehicle as long as it had a bunch of rebates as opposed to paying less for the vehicle without rebates, which isn't true. I'm concerned about the details of the lease and my monthly cost. In the past, however, with all of the Fords I've owned, I had no issues getting both. The new Explorer rolled out aggressively in such a way that they're pricing/incentivizing it before they know for sure just how much people will or won't flock to this new body style, so they're being highly presumptive based on little data. It's a gamble. I've been looking at the 2020 Explorer deals since it launched, and have been through 2 separate lease extensions in the process. Oh, and don't get me started on the debacle at the plants with this vehicle. They need to price these competitively. As more people get wind of the build quality and manufacturing issues, they'll have a glut on the market if they don't already.

  15. All that may be true. I don't work for Ford, maybe you have or do or maybe you're in a similar industry. I just know the vehicle I want, how much I want to pay per month, and what I'm looking for in a lease. Regardless of cost with rebate vs cost without rebate, I had 0 issues getting my 2020 Edge ST at the price I wanted, for the money down that I felt inclined to hand over, with the incentives available. That car has a $50k price tag. The same cannot be said for my current Explorer experience.
    1 point
  16. akirby, I'm curious why you are phrasing your question this way? Why would anyone pick $50K with a $7K rebate, when the result is $3K higher? Even those who are only interested in the monthly payment will see that the $40K/no rebate is the smarter choice. Help me understand your logic. HRG

  17. Very true, the manual is extremely vague and doesn’t even point out where they are. If I had to guess it’s probably because most owners would never use them. I’d wager that mine will be the only one to ever have a canoe on top of it lol

  19. Wow, I know there was another earlier review that compared Explorer vs. Pilot, but this takes it to another level by slamming us on almost every attribute. I thought at least we got something going with our advanced safety systems - it has fewer false-positives, gives a close gap with the vehicle in front when the ACC is activated, and the acceleration when you want to go up to whatever designated speed is pretty reasonable and natural. They're saying the lane-centering is not very predictable, but does Honda or Toyota have it at all? Oh well, the comments are what they are for now, but I think this is perhaps a bit harsher than what I would've liked to see.

  20. If I was in the market for a new car, the Escape hybrid would be my first choice, considering I have a 2015 CMAX hybrid, which I absolutely love. I would have to say the 2.0L hybrid powertrain is far from underpowered as the new system provides a small increase in combined HP.

Sorry I ruffled your feathers so much hoping we can all get back to normal and not have our businesses and economy suffer. Edit: Read your comments to me again. I'm the arrogant one?

  23. If you're not an authority, don't pretend to speak like one. And I love how you have to add "and many other people." I listen to the medical and scientific experts in my county, state, and Federal governments, and don't rely on the media. But it was clear, even last week as you were arrogantly proclaiming this was all blown out of proportion, that it would continue to get worse and that extreme measures for distancing would be required for many more weeks.

  24. Boy, this didn't age well, did it? Still think it was blown out of proportion and that we should go back to work? You seem to think you know more than the media and experts.

  26. To tie into that last post I`ll use the old staying "desperate times call for desperate measures" no no not that one, this one "desperate times make Decker post long shit"...... Remember? 12 years ago? well give this a read, "Twelve years ago, banks asked for a bailout after years of irresponsible, highly leveraged lending. The Treasury Department put out a three-page term sheet seeking money from Congress with no strings attached, even eliminating judicial review. Democrats balked, called it a slush fund and worse, then agreed after a few mostly meaningless bits of oversight and some promises to help ordinary people. That $700 billion bailout was window dressing for trillions that came from the Federal Reserve, but it kept Congress quiet, hooking them into the rescue of the system." "Twelve years later, virtually the same course of events is taking place. After just a couple weeks of extreme social distancing measures, the Treasury Department asked for a large bailout, this time of the entire corporate sector. The bill as written initially would have made all bailout activities secret for six months. Democrats balked, called it a slush fund and worse, and then agreed to a few mostly meaningless bits of oversight and some promises to help ordinary people. In fact they’re the same bits of oversight from the 2008 TARP bailout: a five-member oversight panel and an inspector general for the program." Day Jaa Vuu "The enormity of this bailout is being under-reported. The number you’re hearing is $500 billion. Of that, $75 billion goes to the airline industry and the mysteriously named “businesses critical to national security.” The other $425 billion helps capitalize a $4.25 trillion, with a T, leveraged lending facility at the Federal Reserve. (Banks only need 10% capital to lend ten times the loan amount, Fed`s too, 425 "B" gets 4.25 "T" to loan) The taxpayer dollars would soak up any losses from that lending program. The loans won’t be secret anymore, but the oversight is largely after the fact, without subpoena power, and mainly reduced to writing reports. How exactly do you expect a small, underfunded panel to find fraud in a $4.25 trillion lending facility! Especially when the current administration explicitly believes they are not required to turn over anything to Congress." " So it’s not a $2 trillion bill, it’s closer to $6 trillion, and $4.3 trillion of it comes in the form of a money bazooka aimed at CEOs and shareholders, with almost no conditions attached. At the moment nobody’s seen language, but there’s apparently only a buyback ban for the term of the loan. The money cannon can therefore go to executive compensation or mergers or wholesale purchases of distressed businesses or whatever other financial engineering the accounting department can muster. And once the company returns to health, it can leak out cash to investors (and during the loan too, in dividends). There’s no requirement to keep workers hired; in fact, the (necessary) provision to boost unemployment insurance for four months to 100 percent of median salary (including furloughed workers, gig workers and freelancers) means that these companies can fire with relative impunity." Would "they"? "Will ...they"? use a "pandemic" to steal? 60K elderly and people with medical complications in the United States, died last year with the Flu. Was that the ahh haa moment for our profession thieves to start texting their professional political partners? War Production Act made millions of dollars of profit for every corporation sending the bill to Washington for the tax payer to pay for... every ventilator, mask, bandage, Jeep, truck, MRE and yes as a former VP knows first hand millions were paid to his corporation for.... ammunition. (bullets going to the sandbox) Soon as they get that ahh haa smile on their faces and clean up their favorite resort, the all clear will be sounded. The Professional Politicians will rub each other on the butt (wallet) and save the day by stating get your asses back to work, there are bills to pay.... By Partisanship works great and bills get through in record time when.... all the partners get their cut.

  27. The Federal Money added to the State Money is to supplement those who qualify for State unemployment compensation. The Feds are making up a portion of the States now increased payout.I am gonna guess that so long as this number equals 80% of the laid off employees take home pay that Ford will not pay us from SUB.This coronavirus crisis is a new situation.I just hope my State EBT card gets to me in time to hunt down some toilet paper.Aint it a Bitch! 28. Whether you use it or not, there are some desirable side benefits from AutoStop that help to maintain or even improve long term reliability... beefy high duty cycle starter, long life corrosion proof AGM battery, better bearings and special antifriction coatings throughout the engine, electric pump in the trany to maintain hydraulic pressure while the eingine is off, HVAC refinements to maintain temps when stopped, etc. So AutoStop is far more than just some additional electronics and programming!

  29. I remember the old timers back in the late 80’s talking about collecting government benefits for months in the 70s or 80 from some government program (TRA or TNP or something) and then they ended up having to pay it all back when they got called back to work. Any Grey Beards remember that?

  31. There are companies out there that are trying to stiff their workers. https://www.kxan.com/news/austin-company-looking-to-dock-paychecks-for-those-receiving-stimulus-checks/ We do have that master agreement but hopefully this isn't one of those "act of god" kind of things that the company can use to go ahead and do whatever they want.

  32. Some of those were not standard on the XLT and required option packages. But the new one is definitely more expensive. Ford thinks they can get higher prices for the higher trims. If people are buying them then they’re successful. If people don’t buy them they’ll lower the price. It’s classic supply and demand.

  33. Yes sir TobyTime. I think it goes beyond that though. Ford has been on a "de-contenting" binge in the past few years not just with Explorer, but nearly all Ford branded vehicles for the U.S. market.

  34. The Corsair's Beyond Blue is interesting but I think its a little too much blue. Our 14 F150 Limited has blue full grain leather on just the seating surfaces/headrests in front and back that looks really good... giving it a nice contast without looking too busy. Lincoln nailed the new medium slate gray interior color... not too dark, not too light... perfect shade for a luxury car.

  36. We've had a few Aviator's come in to our dealership and every one, except for one, was Blue Diamond. The exception was being driven by a Ford Credit manger and it was Ceramic Pearl which didn't do anything for the vehicle.

  37. Here's one for now, I'll take more if we have a sunny day this weekend. I haven't been able to take any accurate pictures of the medium slate interior... the shade of gray comes out too light like you'll see online. So the pics don't capture how luxurious it looks, especially with the GTs engine turned aluminium trim.

  41. I don't disagree that the media created a panic, but I don't care who is seeking medial attention - you don't admit people to the hospital unless they are legitimately sick and you certainly don't put them in ICU unless they're critically ill. This is a crisis for hospitals in areas with large infection rates. And without quarantine and other measures now, we'll end up with more and more of those hotspots like New York and Seattle.

  42. A 2 trillion dollar "stimulus" package has been agreed to by Congress that will pay laid off workers an additional $600 a week on top of what state UIC pays.In Michigan UIC pays $362.That plus $600 would equal $962 per week for up to 4 months. What is the incentive to work and risk infection?Just because some one has to have taxes deducted from their pay stub?Stay closed!!!!!!!
