We've all heard the lame jokes trying to demerit Ford in some sort of way: "Found on road dead"; "I hear Ford is coming out with heated bumpers so your hand doesn't cold while you push it." So I thought this thread would be a nice way to critique the longevity and/or reliability of Ford power trains.

Rules:

1. Ford must be owned by you or someone in your family

2. Post the Engine specifications, Model & Year

3. Doesn't have to be currently running.

Go.

My 2007 fusion SE 68000

My teacher's 1992 taurus 183000, had one side collision accident, still run good

2001 Taurus

130,000 miles. standard V-6, no problems, donated the car to my father-in-law, still going.

1997 Merc GM, 89,000, LOVE this car.

In the past..... 1991 T-Bird, 169,000 miles, V-6, rear wheel bearing, alternator were the ONLY problems. Nothing else was ever replaced or repaired (other than brakes/rotors), not even exhaust. I donated the car to the American Lung Assoc. It ran as good that day as it did when new. Spectacular car.

Grandfather: just junked last month his 1989 Escort Automatic (not sure of engine) with 324,000 miles on ORIGINAL engine and one transmission rebuild. had to add oil every other week and he couldn't fill the gas tank past half because it was rotted out but that car still ran like a top the day he junked it!

Uncle Randy: 04 Focus ZX3 Zetech 4 cyl. 151,000 miles (one transmission rebuild about 15,000 miles ago)

Uncle Brian: 99 F-150 V6 2wd 87,000 been in 4 accidents and still runs like new (it's currently in the shop getting fixed with $4,000 in body damage thanks to some dumbass 17 year old who ran a stop sign).

Aunt Deb: 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0L 4wd Auto with 124,000 miles. Transmission original but she changes her oil every 7500 miles IF THAT and her engine recently blew, had to be rebuilt ...not a total loss, but she did a number on it. Great truck though...still looks like new.

1999 Ford Mustang

3.8 V6 with Automatic Transmission

135,284 miles

I Purchased this Mustang brand new back in March of 1999 with 8 miles on the

odometer and have had no major problems with it. Only modifications are

a K&N filter, 17 inch wheels from a 2001 Bullitt Mustang and a 2001 Mustang

GT rear spoiler. Its not powerful or fast but it has been an excellent daily driver

and occasional road trip car that has never let me down. I still drive it everyday

and still Love it!!

Don't be, it's not that hard just time consuming. Use Motorcraft plugs and wires with a little anti-seize on the threads and torque to 14 ft. pounds, change them one at a time so you don't mix up the wires and you'll be fine.

97 F150 5.4L E4OD just under 158k, maintenance items only for repairs.

Let me see . . .

2002 Focus ZX3

117,000 miles

Other than normal wear items some of the problems I've had include:

Alternator

Clutch master cylinder, twice

Six rear-wheel bearings (three per side)

Thermostat

T-stat housing

Everything else I've done to the car has been due to normal wear and tear, like brakes and motor mounts. The rear bearings are an anomaly though. I blame it on auto crossing and spirited driving. Also, I've installed a list of performance parts including a cylinder head and camshafts, performance suspension and lots of other junk. Still, the 2.0-liter Zetec burns ZERO oil between 7,000 - 10,000 changes and I AVERAGE around 30 miles per gallon in the two and a half years I've been keeping track. She sees redline (7,200 RPM) every day.

Don't have it anymore but when I traded my 1989 F350 it had 450,000 miles on it. Was used as a hotshot pulling a 40ft flatbed trailer most of its life.

7.3L/5speed with an ATS turbo system. 2wd,extended cab, dually.

A year after I traded it I saw it during a motorcycle poker run about 40 miles from my home. Was being driven by a young couple with a little daughter.

Always wondered how many miles they put on it.
