Ford shows dealers a Maverick-based Transit Connect replacement

Recommended Posts

This move makes complete sense to me.  I think the only reason TC died was because of the chicken tax and nowhere to put it.....this does bring up the question of where will it go, since BS and Maverick are both doing well sales-wise.

Ford Maverick Based Small Van May Debut In 2025: Report (fordauthority.com)

Earlier today, a report surfaced following a meeting between Ford and its dealer network, one that reportedly showed off a number of future models via renderings, photos, and mock-ups. This included a variety of potential Ford Mustang variants, including a four-door sedan, an off-road-focused model, an RTR-modified EcoBoost, and a possible Shelby GT500 replacement. However, those dealers were also shown something else that’s rather interesting – a small van based on the Ford Maverick compact pickup.

If it allegedly may appear in 2025, Ford must have a plant in mind to build it, I would think.

That’s great news if it includes Maverick hybrid and AWD capabilities.  I hope size is larger than Connect and closer to Transit Custom.  If length is any indication, Maverick is already longer than European base Transit Custom.  I also hope it looks more like a real van and not a station wagon with raised roof.

My $$$ is that it goes to Hermosillo along with BS and Maverick, now that those 2 models are starting to show up as stock on dealer lots.  The Maverick is no longer the $20K darling it once was, after short order windows for the MY22 & 23 years, MY24 never closed until just recently.

You’re thinking of Hermosillo where Maverick is already being built. Cuactitlan builds Mach-E.

No I was thinking Ecosport was built there but it was just Fiesta.  So maybe it was gutted.

10-4 Currently only the Mach-e is produced there. They last built the Fiesta (2011-19). Before that they were building the Contour, F-Series and Fiesta Ikon (sedan) in overlapping years, so there must be capacity to build diverse products simultaneously.

They made a big deal of the flexible nature of the plant when they fit it out for the fiesta, then never made use of the flexibility. I don’t know if the MME would necessarily reduce that flexibility.

Currently only the MME is built  in Cauttilan, but in the past, they had assembled three different vehicles there. I don't know how that plant is configured; if they built everything one one line or separate lines.

This design would do quite well here, especially if the roofline was lowered by like an inch, just to make it look a little less awkward while still being practical. But this body, almost suv like shape has shown promise on other vans in the U.S. market. I dig it personally, it's one of the few vans that actually looks like it has a unique style to it.

Transit Connect

Seems logical - just didn't know if they wanted to use the same name on unrelated products here and abroad.....but that hasn't stopped them before *cough* Explorer *cough*
