Public feedback is pretty useless. Half will hate it half will love it. Focus groups are much better but even they don’t get it right.
Sneak peeks can be cool but backfire like the transformers Camaro and Bronco.
Just build good vehicles and don’t take forever to launch them.
I have the same issue with my 2024 Escape Platinum Hybrid - 10 months old. Only 3,610 KM (2,243 MI). Also in battery saver mode. Issue became noticeable 2-3 months ago when we noticed that when we go into the garage - in the dark - and open the door, there are NO LIGHTS! NOTHING! Ridiculous! A couple of weeks ago I finally took it to the dealer - he said there is no problem and I need to drive it more! Battery was at 44%. For the next week or 10 days I took it on a number of 25-30 minute drives. No change! I took it back to the dealer and said I want a new battery. He said he can't do that if the battery is good and the charging system is OK! They checked it; everything fine; charged it for a while up to about 60%; and I picked it up. Result - still in battery saver mode; no lights at all when you shut it off - find my way into tyhe house in the dark. Same when I go out to start it - NO LIGHTS! Well I'm reaally sorry Mr Ford - but my warranty doesn't say I have to drive it every day if I want to have full function! This is ridiculous. It's a well-known problem - and Ford's FIX is to stop building Escapes??? As a long-time employee; and now a 25-year retiree, I am embarrassed by this! I have family members that I talked into Escape hybrids and they have the same issue! Does anyone have name - somebody high up - that I can write to? I'm stuck with this lease for another 4 years and I'm totally fed up with this unexpected drawback! HELP!
I don't believe these super far out concepts that will never been made provide much in the way of value to a brand. Things like that BMW 100 concept for instance that had the flexible skin on the outside, yeah that's never gonna see production, at least for several decades of ever. So I understand the skepticism for concepts like that.
But a lot of concepts these days are 90% the actual production car, just shown a couple of years in advance. Those still serve a purpose in the automotive world imo. The first CE1 products is coming late 2026/ early 2027, it's gonna be here before we know it. Now is the time to show something and get feedback on it. Let's say people really hate the front end, or the hood. Ford would close to, or just over 2 years to tweak smaller things like that. If they hide it from the world until 6 months before production, and people don't like it, then they're screwed.
Well hang on a second. Concepts are instrumental in getting consumer feedback on a design language, or vehicle offering. It lets a brand know if people are receptive to a new look, or if there's demand for entering a certain segment. As well as knowing what features and tech buyers like and don't like.
All of that is invaluable when you consider the fact that most concept cars only cost a few million to make, pocket change for these massive brands. I'm curious if Ford plans to reveal any CE1 concepts at Detroit in a little over a week's time. They did say they would openly discuss and reveal details of their EV strategy in the early parts of 2025 after all.
There is a much simpler reason.
Concepts generate press but they do absolutely nothing for sales. Same for online reviews. Ford figured this out a decade ago.
