Are you implying added costs are not an issue Ford is trying to manage? If not cost reduction then what? Personally see cost as primary issue with most things, otherwise every vehicle would have every gadget and option imaginable. The line on content has to be drawn somewhere for any given vehicle price, right? As mentioned previously in other threads, IMO the best way to reduce costs is to have budget-minded models that do not have these capabilities at all from the onset. Deleting options can’t possibly save as much because many costs are already sunk. Just my 2 cents….
I'm talking about the brand new one that was redesigned/isn't out yet, so I'm not sure if things have been improved either.
Yes, definitely agree on that last sentence.
Its a 2020 Rav XLE, not sure if the new ones improved on those issues, but when sharing this with another friend and the "But Toyotas are realiable..." spin and I just attacked, I'm like "At what cost? a Miserable experience lasting years, have you tried anything else"... Ironically this vehicle was a hand me down to my bestfriends kid, grandma only does Toyota. Funny thing is her son took her to anything BUT and bought a new 2025 GMC Terrain. And here he is "look lighted switched, some touch materials, toys, doors that sound like a solid THUNK", I just remind him "Please hope she doesnt have an issue with the GMC cause you'll never hear the end of it for purcashing a domestic brand"....
We’re not going to continue beating this dead horse that has already been beaten at least 10 times about big trucks and chicken tax.
Bolt comments only please.
But comparing the US to other countries is stupid also...since quite a few of our states have equal land mass to countries in the EU for example.
What might work there doesn't work here and vice versa.
its a lot easier to build say a national train system when your country is the size of say Washington State (Germany) vs one that needs to stretch over 2800 miles east to west and multiple time zone.
There are so many other factors at play like cost of gas and other things that making a comparison of what works in one market vs another is far beyond most peoples knowledge here.
Are they?
using the Ranger as an example*:
US Ranger XLT starting MSRP: $35,3751
Australian Ranger XLT Starting MSRP: $69000 AUD=$45230.88 USD
South Africa Ranger XLT starting MSRP: R681500=$39536 USD
UK Ranger Raptor (no XLT) starting MSRP £47,800=$63748.23 vs 56,070 MSRP
* This isn't completely inclusive because the ROW Ranger has a Diesel vs Ecoboost in the US and the market variations in options/packages, but close enough to prove the point. Not to mention currency strength vs the US Dollar.
Also some vehicles are going to be "cheaper" because the cost of living or earning levels are lower then in other countries also.
Full size pickups sell well here because we're an unsophisticated market that equates size with value and social status. ROW looks at our full size pickups and cringes...
