I would answer differently from JPD80; in the case of the Navi, if we agree to stipulate that the shortcomings mentioned in this discussion are real and present, then 'what else they should be doing' would be to sweat the details and make sure their product isn't simply 'present and accounted for' in the segment but actually is a true competitor to its rivals - one that represents the best effort of Ford Motor Company. The Navi as described in this discussion does not meet that metric. I will gladly stipulate that the other Lincoln products meet their marks (I don't know one way or the other). It just seems like Navi as the highest priced Lincoln should represent the 'best' of FMC, and apparently it doesn't.

Grabber? Nobody in marketing thought "Grabber"?   That's as sad as nobody at GM pushing to call the Silverado EV the EVlanche.

They get sold but at what price and where? Cuba for $15,000?  The auto mfrs. could shut down plants for 3 to 6 months that are making certain models and there'd still be enough of those models available for sale on dealer lots.

My truck is a supercab and I can fit all 3 kids in the back seat including booster seats if I need to. Would they prefer if I had a full crew cab? Probably but they still have more space than if I put them in the back seat of my Fusion. 

Yes and no, please bear with me, I didn’t mean reskin as a put down of the efforts done and it could be argued that a deep reskin achieves nearly as much as a different tophat, normally a wheelbase change seals it.   The Lincoln Navigator is best described as a clever and deeply executed re-skin of the Ford Expedition, sharing the same truck-based heavy-duty foundation, core architecture, and mechanical hard points, but elevated with a unique top-hat design, exclusive sheet metal, and bespoke luxury appointments.   The Lincoln Aviator is a clever, heavily upgraded reskin with unique mechanical and luxury differentiators rather than just a simple badge-engineered top hat. While it shares the same core rear-wheel-drive-based platform, wheelbase, and structural hard points as the Ford Explorer, Lincoln separates the Aviator with unique sheet metal, an exclusive standard twin-turbo V6 engine, and distinct luxury hardware. The Lincoln Corsair is a clever, heavily upgraded and exceptionally well-differentiated reskin of the Ford Escape on the shared C2 platform, featuring unique sheetmetal, distinct luxury powertrains, and a dramatically quieter, higher-tech cabin.   C2 Edge vs C2 Nautilus- this is where the story differs and I would agree with your observation of a dedicated top hat due to different wheelbase.   Scales of economy have played an important part in limiting the funding for the above - I would love to see Lincoln go another step better and challenge Cadillac as well as BMW & MB (6.8 Navigator with LWB? and the Lincoln “Bronco” with 3.0 EB)

Also too much economic instability so I do understand Ford focusing in on its profit earners but  it  also need the minds that made the Bronco and Maverick possible to hunt out all those other valuable niches. You could do worse than using Lincoln to displace a few German LUX vehicles.    

Had it 8 years and I think I've only had people in the back seat 2 or 3 times.  Which is why I got the supercab.

They have one full size body on frame rwd/4wd, one unibody rwd and two unibody fwd hybrids.  That's 3 different platforms and 3 of the 4 have 100% unique tophats and interiors.   That's not "reskinned fords".   What else should they be doing?  

The simpler explanation is they don't have the capacity (yet) to expand sales much so they chose not to spend the money on it.  That might change once Oakville is at full speed.
