akirby
Definitely not Corsair! Corsair is cool - that was a fighter plane. You must be thinking of Corvair. Edited May 27, 2018 by akirby
fuzzymoomoo
Corsair is cool - that was a fighter jet. You must be thinking of Corvair. wasnt a jet. It was from WWII. It was the one fighter the navy had that could go toe to toe with the Japanese Zero.

Assimilator
Mariner seems like a great fit for the theme and it's a name they've used before which probably helps a bit with marketing...even if it was a Mercury. But I wouldn't be surprised if they find something different. Do we know the licensing status on the Mariner name? akirby
wasnt a jet. It was from WWII. It was the one fighter the navy had that could go toe to toe with the Japanese Zero. Typo. I knew it was a prop plane from WWII. I watched Baa Baa Black Sheep!
fuzzymoomoo
Typo. I knew it was a prop plane from WWII. I watched Baa Baa Black Sheep! My step-grandfather was on a carrier that held both Corsairs and TBM-Avengers. My biological grandfather was a tail gunner in an Avenger.

rmc523
I thought it was established it will be Mariner... I don't think anything is established (at least publicly), Mariner was, AFAIK, just speculation/a logical thought (or just a placeholder) given that it fits with the theme of the other names. My opinion: despite it fitting perfectly with the theme, I'd stay away from it. They've done so much work over the last few years to work on shedding the "tarted up Ford" image. Using the Mariner name - a name most people know from the Mercury model which was just a mildly rebadged Escape - only reminds people of that. But who knows, maybe they've done research indicating people don't know or care? Edited May 27, 2018 by rmc523

akirby
Mariner is way too Mercury-ish. Maybe an older Mercury name might work.

silvrsvt
I don't see an issue with Lincoln using Mariner for the MKC replacement. Or something brand new that dovetails with their travel naming convention they are using-which begs the question, what is the MKZ going to be called? IMO Zephyr is stupid
92merc
I think Mariner name will work for the MKC replacement. It fits the "navigation" themes. Doesn't fit the N name theme though. But I don't like it anyway. If they go with Aviator name, then it looks like they won't stick with N's. I think if they break away from N's on MKC, do the same on MKZ. Don't re-use with old names either. Lincoln needs a new image and car names to go with it.

Most other brands seem to be in no hurry to change letter and number model names.
akirby
Except other letter and number model schemes have some logic behind them. If you take away the MK you’re left with just C, Z, S and X. Doesn’t tell you anything about size or type of vehicle or engine.
rmc523
Looking through some nautical terms, here are a few that I'd put on a consideration list, just in alphabetical order, and I know some are better than others. -Aeronaut -Ace -Admiral -Beacon -Merchant -Regatta -Schooner -Traveler -Trimaran (would've been a neat name for a three row model) -Windjammer (could be used on an electric only model....marketing could go..."it's so silent, you'd think it's powered by the wind", or something like that) And, if/when Lincoln gets an "autopilot" system, can it be called anything other than Lincoln's "Captain" autonomous system?
