T-dubz
When we did all the data analytics, it became really clear, a loyal owner is so much easier for us to do business with than trying to get a customer from someone else," Farley said. "It was a big 'aha' moment for us." I cant believe he said this. Investors must be super excited. Lets forget about all the potential customers that we could get and growing market share and focus only the ones that are already loyal because its easier. The only good thing about that article is the pic of the ranger. It looks pretty good in that blue color.

They're not going to stop going after conquests, they're just going to do more things to retain existing customers. If you get 2 conquest customers but lose 2 existing customers that is a net zero transaction. I would expect a multi-tier loyalty rebate depending on what and how many Ford products you currently own or have owned in the past.

Not to mention it costs more to get a new customer then retain a current customer.
akirby
Woohoo! I'm gettin' a free car (after rebates)! GM did a little of that with their credit cards. My buddy got a big discount on his Silverado that way.

SoonerLS
Do they still do that or did they discontinue that? I think they discontinued it a long time ago. Maybe when GM sold GMAC to Cerberus Capital (before it became Ally Financial).
Assimilator
If Ford is trying to retain customers....they are going about it very poorly at the moment. They are shedding all of their volume customers (Focus/Fiesta/Fusion) without preparing an appealing selection of entry level utilities like the rest of the industry. Ultimately I think they want to retain customers they can make money from and expand those more than retaining all customers just because they bought a car from them once. Fordowner
Ford used to have a credit card like that, I think it was through Citibank. It didn't last long but i did accumulate a decent amount of money that I applied to a car. It wasn't the service card they have.

What part did you miss that the vast majority of those buyer bought because it was cheap and then moved on to another makers product? Yes, those products had issues-some more then others, but Ford does have loyal customers besides that keep coming back and the numbers to them indicate that its more worth keeping them then chasing the cheap ones for market share. The credit card points thing Ford has was a really long time ago-like the late 1990s. I remember my parents using it. It hasnt been around since the early 2000s or so. It hasnt been around since the early 2000s or so. I had the Ford Citi card and used the points/dollars (which they doubled in a special offer) to buy a new 1994 Ford Probe GT! I forget when it ended though.

So how many $800 Ford trucks do I have to buy off craigslist before I qualify for a free, brand new F150?

jpd80
The worst of it is behind Ford with the end of 2018, we'll see Ranger early next year and then Explorer/Aviator and new Escape/Corsair, then the upgraded Super Duty with 10-speed auto, Medium Duty with 7.3 V8..... 351cid
I am one loyal Ford customer that had been lost. I have lost all confidence in the management. There is never any indication that quality is a part of the Ford they are striving to get to...only margins to appease Wall Street. I, and many others, gave been dumped by FoMoCo. 13 is the number of new Ford's I have bought. Only the first was a bottom dweller (Escort), the rest were middle to upper end models. Outside of having hissy fit because Ford isnt building what you want-were are you going to go? The grass isnt always greener on the other side.

jpd80
Just my opinion but Ford didn't need to throw its cars under a bus before having all of its new utilities ready to go. The whole thing is a PR nightmare because some at the top are only now discovering the importance of existing customers. It's not the end of the world but Ford could have done a much better job of addressing the concerns of buyers like 35cid, there was no context or even content discussed to show him and other car buyers WTF the plan is for them - that was stupid. White space vehicles smacks of Ford not really knowing what to do next.....the fact that they still have nothing to show us tells us that Ford will probably just rework cars into looking like crossovers even though they really aren't, all of this was unnecessary. I'm sure Ford has more great products coming, they just need to stop dribbling on their boots in press conferences...
