jpd80
Just for reference, Hermosillo started building 41 pre-production Bronco Sport back in February 2020, so it could be well after mid year before Ford hits the go button on production job one. Agreed but nothing much will happen until Ford announces the vehicle officially and releases the production timetable for the ordering, scheduling and the Job #1 Date. ausrutherford
Let's just take a moment to think about that Ford will have an all-new Maverick, Ranger, and F-150 in less than two years. Maybe the updated/all-new Super Duty in there as well. Ford will have truck market covered from small to large with the newest models compared to every competitor.

And maybe a new Cargo / and L series? I know, not likely.

Correct, I was just saying that the plant makes preproduction vehicles 9-12 months in front of any launch. Nothing announced yet so a mid year launch is highly unlikely. The Bronco Sport was supposed to be a late summer launch too...till COVID hit. Didn't come til year end then.

The telling part is that Ford still hasn't announced the Maverick, something we've been waiting for. That's kind of odd...... That's kind of odd...... https://www.slashgear.com/ford-baby-bronco-will-pair-rugged-looks-with-on-road-talent-10540844/ Back in 2018 they where expecting a 2019 launch as a 2020 https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/bronco-sport-now-in-dealer-system-revealing-trims-colors-packages-options-engines-transmission.1042/ The BS was in the Ford ordering system back last March...right before COVID hit We also knew about the BS back in 2018 from the leaks at the Ford meeting when they where planning to kill off cars. IIRC if we didn't have COVID, the Bronco Sport would have been on dealer lots in August of last year and the Bronco would have been in Production already by now, since Dec 7th was the date getting kicked around for that
jpd80
The T6 Bronco delivery date of December 2020 was set in 2016, the only time it changed was 2020 with COVID. The reason that Bronco Sport info was out early was to build hype around the Bronco family, I’m still surprised that nothing has been said officially about Maverick, grass roots information is one thing but Ford should at least be saying something by now.... bzcat
Maybe Ford is delaying the launch due to microchip shortage. Who knows. Or maybe Farley is reevaluating production plans for Hermosillo after he whacked Brazil.

I read on FA that Hermosillo could also get Transit Connect, which I always thought made a lot of sense - but instead they went for a 3rd party production in Uruguay... jpd80
The deal with VW supplying the next TC obviously changes what needs to be done for South America, using a third party to build TC is interesting........

FR739
Any speculation what the specs will be for this truck? Payload, towing, etc? I really hope it’s decent. That could be a game changer.
bzcat
It probably land between Transit Connect LWB and Ranger Transit Connect LWB GVWR: 5,300 lbs Payload: 1,550 lbs Towing: 2,000 lbs Ranger Crew Cab 4x2 GVWR: 6,050 lbs Payload: 1,860 lbs (1,650 lbs for 4x4) Towing: 7,500 lbs Just guessing... Maverick FWD GVWR: 5,500 lbs Payload: 1,600 lbs (1,450 lbs for AWD) Towing: 3,500 lbs (same as Escape) or 4,500 lbs with tow package Edited March 10, 2021 by bzcat
akirby
Payload and towing is not going to be an issue for 98% of buyers. Especially with Ranger available.

If you need to tow something get the Maverick or Ranger instead..that is why Ford rates its car based products in the US so low vs the EU

That’s a good sized boat or utility trailer.
