Looks like ford is doin a floating roof for the expy, I like it

they may offer one, but that’s just a black Expy, with the camo creating the illusion of a black roof.  Look at the panel gaps where there’s no camo

Latest round of spy shots showing King Ranch.  Looks like the front will have an LED lightbar at the bottom of the grille.......I'm still not sure about the taillights - I'm hoping that element in the liftgate isn't the only part of it, which seems tacked on if so.

I hope both the top and bottom of the grill have illuminated bars.  I like the kr wheel alot.  Ot looks like ford is going back to the plastic cladding for the mirror pedestals instead of the body colored sheet metal they been doing for the current gen, which is ugly and makes no sense to do. Also, ford is not hiding the front wipers like it's competitors do, but that's just me nit picking.

The current mirror pedestals are not body color, BUT, they are painted gloss black, which is nicer than the textured plastic we're seeing on these shots.  Navigator seems to keep the gloss black mounts, whereas Expy seems to be going to the textured plastic.

Ford expedition active per ford expedition forums.

That actually looks good. Hopefully it's legit. This appears to be the graphic as seen on the Ford site's Build & Price configurator. Reveal coming soon?

From the forum, the poster stated that a dealer had a blog that posted the photo.  Apparently the trim range will now mimic the explorer and escape now, so it'll be active, king ranch, and platinum, with possible limited and st trims.

If this is it, it looks like a solid refresh, not an all new model.  Why didn’t they get rid of that flippin chrome trim along the beltline.

I also don’t understand why they changed the trim names.  It was unnecessary and adds confusion.

Makes it easier to brand and compare trim levels for CUV/SUV products. The Bronco is a different beast, but uses the same concept.

Your not wrong about that but I'm guessing that other ideas for names might have been copywrited?

Copyrights primarily protect the rights of people who create literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other original works (like history tests, and software code). Trademarks can protect the use of a company's name and its product names, brand identity (like logos), and slogans.

I understand the change in theory, but the expedition is also aligned with the truck trim names, which makes more sense to me, considering nobody’s cross shopping an escape with an expedition.

Don't care too much about the trim names.  More interested about feature content and thoughtful changes.  Saw leaked pics of the armada, it's looking good and looks like it will come with the same suspension as the qx80.

I will say, while I'm liking this so far, as well as the restyled navigator, can someone tell me why the two always share the same basic exterior design? Yes, I get it, money, we all know tooling up for a new, and bespoke design is very expensive, tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars expensive.

But it's always confused me how Ford can justify giving the better valued nautilus and aviator their own unique designs that look nothing like their Ford counterparts. Yet on Ford's more expensive offerings, they cheap out and use the same body molds for most of the body. You would think if they had to choose, the cheaper models would be the ones sharing body work, and the more expensive models would be the ones with exclusive, and separate designs, yet it's the opposite. Just odd to me, I'm sure there's a reason for it that extends beyond cost.

I'm guessing that it is because there isn't enough budget to go around for a completely bespoke model sheet metal? They sold 73K Expeditions and 17K Navigators last year.

The Escape sold 140K and the Explorer sold 180K with their Lincoln counterparts selling about 27K respectively in North America, not sure how much in the way of Chinese sales. So they have a bit more money to play with.

I am guessing it's also to maximize profits, plus in the large SUV class customers don't care if they look similar to their lower trimmed counterparts.  Escalade and Suburban are a great example they also just have essentially different front and rear clips but the middle is the same.  Doesn't affect sales at all.

They haven't released it yet, hopefully they add some body flourishes that make the navigator stand out a bit from the expy.  One thing I noticed in the spied trucks, the nav looks way less imposing and aggressive than the nautilus, with less facial appliques and creases.  The headlights are also less aggressive, more round and curvy.

ST would make no sense on Expy.

I guess they want to have all the crossovers/SUVs (sans Bronco) to have the same trim names.

This is the standard for the segment for companies with entrants from regular and luxury brands.

the GM triplets are the same between the front/rear clip.  Nissan/Infiniti are the same too.

True, but expedition/navigator also sell at much higher prices that Ford's other utilities. They might be selling half as many expeditions as escapes, but they're double the price if not more in many cases.

For me, as I have mentioned before, the character line down the side profile makes it stand out that it is the same body since 2018.   That can’t be hidden.  I think smooth panels hide the age of the body better and allow the focus to be on the front and rear changes.

I don’t recall GM carrying over body panels from one generation to another.
